Is Chad Johnson insignificant?
Hey all,
Signed him late last year to fill some Goalie void I had, when Price went out, then Ramo.
Played 45 games in Buf
Is he worth a 1.6m salary for a 3rd stringer...essentially only used if one of my guys gets hurt, or CGY has 4 games against 1-2 from MON or WSH

Elliott has never been able to run away with the starter's gig. He's an awesome goalie but his backup always gets in a lot of games.

Like EB and Daoust said, Elliot being a BAB really helps Johnson's value. I'd say he's good for at least 30 games this season in an improving Calgary squad. Definitely a better option than Ramo.

Not if he's in Calgary.
Third string or not Ramo is the weak link in the trio. Elliot may be the starter, but as long as he continues to miss games due to injury, Johnson is more than significant. Johnson may not have a starters pedigree but he has proven himself a capable and trustworthy back-up. The only thing shocking about Johnson is he never seems to stay in one city very long (six teams in seven years?).

I think the main reason he's seen so many teams is that he's a journeyman backup. He fills a role, and does it better than a lot of other options, but he's never shown an ability to be "the guy" anywhere. There's almost always a prospect coming up, and Johnson is a great option to give them time to develop. For what he does, and the role he's asked to fill, he does a great job. I just don't think he's the kind of goalie to be able to put up decent numbers over more than about 40 games.
