5.25Mil isn't too bad. Maybe a little more than I expected, but then again, it fits right in with the Jones and Goli deals.

After Jones got $5.4M, I figured Krug would be right in this area as well. Taking a hometown discount last year paid off for him this year.

Interesting to see the contract numbers for defensemen signing this summer:

    Goligoski $5.475 AAV
    Vatanen $4.875 AAV

He didn't take a home town discount. There was no room to sign him and Smith last year (both RFA, no leverage) so they each took 1.4M each on one year deals.

He deserved this contract and the Bruins picked Krug over Smith. Id say this is a little bit of an overpayment but it's still good nonetheless.

Seems like fair value for Krug. The term is a little bit confusing at only 4 years. This should take him to UFA status so I would have thought the Bruins would have wanted 6 years once they go into UFA years. Perhaps Krug asked for the shorter term so that he can still hit another home run in 4-years time??

I was expecting 5.5, but with a 6 year term. So this is good for Boston for now, although I think when he hits UFA in a few years, he's in for another raise and they might not be able to hold onto him at that point. His NTC doesn't kick in for two more years, maybe that's as an out partway through in case he doesn't live up to their expectations.

Wasn't really much of a discount. It was a one-year bridge deal because the Bruins were cap strapped. They basically leveraged future cap space for savings for last season that they are now paying for since Krug gained more leverage.
