This guy's from the Sun (Toronto equivalent of National Enquirer) so take with a grain of salt lol

There is no reason for Stamkos to ask for a NMC if it was a sign and trade. That makes no sense at all.

So to make up the additional 4.25 million, he has to increase his endorsements buy an additional 8.5 million per year.

This calculation does not take into account his current endorsement income... so what ever he is making now... he has to double that amount as well to have the same after tax cash available.

And the Canadian government just introduced a new top tax bracket, which he would definitely fall into... and I know the tax rate is not quite 50% but I think its closer to 46% in Ontario.

Well - it may be a moot point to discuss it... but the 0% Florida income tax is a state tax.
    US Citizens pay two taxes:
    1. The Federal Tax to the US Government. This is 40% in the US.
    2. A State Tax to the local state governemt. This varies but is typically between 0% (FLA) and 10%. Georgia, for example, is 6%.

There's articles out there that state that if Stamkos got $10m, he'd get $6m by staying in Tampa... about $4.5m from being in Ontario.

Anyways - it may not matter.
But the timing still gives hint at a sign/trade... and a NMC (if I understand) would still allow the player to accept movement.
So... if Stamkos was going to Toronto, he would accept that and then not have to move from Toronto - if that's what he wanted.
(assuming the NMC is a transitive property of the contract... IDK)

I'm definitely in the PRO-Toronto camp.
    Have been for 1yr+.
Started a thread on it last year.

    I won't accept defeat until... August 1st.
Then I'll bow my head and say I was wrong.

If it kicks on on July 1st that makes more sense. However, I doubt he would sign for so little if he wasn't staying in TB.

Stamkos signing in TB has been official for what, 30mins? an hour? And we still haven't heard all the Leaf fans jumping ship to Tavares now? Wow, I am actually shocked.

The timing might also play into this... He met with Toronto... and it was agreed that he stay in Tampa and try winning a cup next year.

Toronto intends on tanking again to get Nolan Patrick.

Then with the NMC... Stamkos decides to ask for a trade and waive the NMC for Toronto right before the expansion draft.

I know... far-fetched and I hope it does not happen!

If it were a sign and trade, wouldn't the announcement of the trade had come at the same time as the signing?

Here's another article on the Stamkos situations.
Good reading & includes tax implications:
    http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/st...-trade-option/

Additionally, it appears his no-movement clause would give him the power to dictate where he was traded to.
So... the NMC would be an absolute requirement if Stamkos' were to agree to the contract as a vehicle to sign/trade.

Yzerman would HAVE to include this for Stamkos to sign, so that Stamkos could pick his club for his next 8 years.
It's absolutely still a possibility that TB is not keeping Stamkos and does intend to get something for him.

Stamkos probably wanted the leafs to draft a winger...and since they didn't he decided to stay in TBay
