Stamkos's deal with TB is expected to come in at eight years, with an AAV of $8.5M.
I still expect this to be a sign and trade - they have too many other issues to deal with and can't afford his $8.5 - unless they trade Kucherov?????

    Oh... 8 years... there's still a chance...
TB basically proved this playoffs that they are pretty close to a CUP team withOUT Stamkos... so....

Maybe we should change the thread to "Stamkos SIGNING with Tampa Bay".
Need to check the tweeter to see if Stamkos is saying "Happy to be part of the organization for life..." or... is he keeping quiet?

Surprised by this too. Why wait this whole time and cause all this drama. He must have known what was out there.

Unless of course there is a sign and trade.......

I think so too! Just a hunch I suppose. But then again at 8 /$8.5 I think it fits for Tampa....hell who knows at this point. This day has proven strange enough already.

Man that's a steal of a deal for an elite player such as Stamkos. I think he's staying otherwise the trade of the sign-and-trade would have been announced concurrently.

The Lightning may have been worried about their cap situation if Stamkos got $10-11m but at $8.5 I say keep him and make the other moves necessary to get under the cap.

I also expect it to be announced he has a full NMC.

Touche.... they lost an asset.... you just didn't get an asset... so they are definitely worse off!

I'm impressed Stevie signed him for $8.5 considering all the big money speculation. I was under the impression that this is the offer TB had tabled ages ago.

People forget that 8.5 in TB is 10+ anywhere else...the state/provincial taxes do play a factor into it and Florida has ~15% lower taxes.
