Unless the Leafs can trade Lupul, Laich or Michalek how can they get in on the Stamkos free agency frenzy ! I know the Horton contract goes to IR but they still need to free up cap space.

Teams can go over cap during the offseason. I'm not sure what all of the deadlines are but I believe they could sign Stamkos easily and just put Horton on LTIR before the season starts. The other concern related to what you brought up is filling out the rest of the roster.

Teams don't get the savings they used to for burying contracts. They save something like 950k max per contract in the AHL. Basically there's no reason to bury someone unless they don't deserve to be in the NHL.Originally Posted by Sulla
