I think it means his pp opportunities are limited to second unit (and maybe not even that depending how they set up) but think he cracks top four and if he is used in heavy offensive zone starts (like most first year d men usually are) I can see him being in the 25-35 point bracket

Plan is still to keep Matheson with Ekblad from what i am Hearing. It will Limit his powerplaytime but for his overall long term development it is good news.

I don't know much about Matheson. Is or will he be a multi-cat guy? Or more of a strictly offensive type?

Anything I've seen has him as an offence first type of Dman. Holds true if his performance at the World Championship is any indication.

I saw Matheson in several AHL games. I liked what I saw - smooth skater with decent size & positioning. Definitely offense first, although it didn't seem to me that his defense was weak. Clearly not afraid to join the rush, he looked like an extra forward at times. He will be best paired with a defensive stalwart like McCoshen, or as rumour has it, Ekblad.

This was likely when Gudbranson was sent to Vancouver. Now all but a done deal with Kulikov going to Buffalo. Just as long as they don't resign Brian Campbell which I heard they weren't going to do, but you never know.Originally Posted by Sulla

I love what I a hearing here fellas. Was able to snag him up in the second round 14th overall of our entry draft today. Joulevi, Montour, Sergachev, and Lindell were the dman selected before him. Pretty happy with where I was able to pick him up. Had Lindell lined up, but he went right before my pick. All good!

Demers' signing changes things. Gives Matheson more time to develop, but unless he can really come on strong, he will lose 2nd pp time.
