Figure the contract makes Hutch the sacrificial goat since a goalie under contract needs to be left exposed in the expansion if I remember correctly. It's not like they will want to extend Pav and Helly will be the one protected so Hutch will be exposed and likely retained.

Overall I doubt the extension does much for his numbers or opportunities.

Didn't it just happen like this morning? It's the calm before the storm here with the draft and FA starting next week. Im sure whoever writes the articles is pretty busy. But I also don't know if it really requires an impact assessment article.

I think this is a GREAT time to buy low on Eric Comrie. He seems to be the least talked-about guy in that organization but some reputable G scouting services, the people at In-Goal Magazine and Scouting for example, have him rated as highly as #4 among G prospects. Time to ask around in your keeper leagues.

Who it helps: Pavelec. Because there's a chance Hellebuyck is still in the AHL for the season.
Also it hurts WPG +/- a touch because it won't be Hellebuyck in net as much.

You know, I have wondered about this for a long time. Helly gets all the press, but Comrie is always highly ranked. He doesn't have the size of some others, but to be ranked that high means his skills are pretty damn good.

It's in today's ramblings (the 22nd). But I am baffled by this signing, I don't believe Helly needs to be in the minors any longer and they should really start to phase him in as their future.

I believe Hutch was signed in order to serve as the unprotected sacrifice player from the WPG goalie pool for the expansion draft. Pavs is in his walk year and wont be back. Hutch and Helle will be the two roster Gs at the time of the expansion draft, Helle will be protected obviously. The expansion draft will lead to some wacky moves like this one. Too bad for Helle but on the bright side it should make his acquisition costs lower.

Hutch will probably be in the minors to start, or at least until/if Pavelec is moved.. Hutchinson is also the goalie the Jets will leave unprotected on the expansion list.. Hutchinson will be Hellebuyck's backup next season!!
