Default This years NHL draft dropper...

It seems to happen most drafts, that one player we all expect to go fairly high but seems to slip in the draft for some strange reason.

Last year, it was Mathew Barzal, before that we had seen Kasperi Kapanen and even Mikhail Grigorenko to name a few.

So who is the player this year who falls at the draft? Any guesses and why?

Jacob Chychrun. He still gets talked about as the best defenseman in the draft, but others, like Sergachev, have gotten heaps of praise lately and Chychrun's star hasn't been as bright compared to these up and comers.

I am going to predict it will be German Rubtsov but I guess it depends on how high you have him ranked, pre-draft.

My best guess is Nylander. He's been discussed as a possible no4 pick in some places, but wingers are not as highly in demand as Cs and Ds this year. And as other wingers like Tkachuk and Dubois might/should be taken before him, I'm going to predict Nylander outside the top 10, maybe even outside the top 15.

I'm going to say McLeod. Seen him ranked as high as 6.

I think he has a great all round game, but isn't elite at anything. Could see him sliding to the 15 to 20 range.

On the illegal curve podcast. They mentioned Dubois as an elite player. So anything below 4th or 5th would be a big drop. I don't see it happening. I think he gets taken in the top 5.

I agree he will drop, but i'd say failing a drug test is a valid reason to drop. I don't think he should be expected to go that high anymore. not saying the failed test was his fault, as the entire team failed the test, and I think he'll be a great nhler, but in my mock draft posted about a month ago, I had him going at the end of the first round to tampa, who don't have issues taking chances on a Russian, and could use another center in the organization.
max jones is in the same boat. tons of talent, tons of question marks. I've got him going to the islanders in the first round, but he could drop quite a lot as well.

i'm gonna actually predict that there will be no draft dropper this year! every year there is one, this year I don't think there will be.

chychrun is the most likely candidate, but he could go anywhere from 4 to 11-12, so I assume one of the teams scopps him up before 8-9 at the latest, which I wouldn't consider a drop, seeing as though most draft rankings have him around there. I don't see both Arizona and buffalo passing on him.
wouldn't be surprised if clayton keller is around at 15 or so, but again, I wouldn't consider that a drop. he's got tons of talent, but looking at the players that could go in front of him, it wouldn't be a shock if he dropped that far.

I don't think Chychrun "dropping" would be a surprise any more considering he's already slipped in the rankings. He was going to go top 3 and now it looks like he's going somewhere between 10-20.

As far as sliders I'm not sure but I've read some thinking Cam Dineen is a bit overrated.

Did Rubtsov actually fail the drug test or just part of the team that got suspended?

Love him as a player but I wouldn't be surprised to see Max Jones slip to the back of the first round. Obviously he's a monster physically and can skate like the wind, but the discipline and lack of hockey IQ may turn some teams off.

If NHL GM's read our mock draft I'm going to guess Libor Hajek! Everywhere I see him ranked in the 30-40 range and he wasn't picked inside our top-60.

They never named names, but it was "a large portion" of the team
