I believe the rumours going around from last years draft was that Matthews would have gone 3rd overall if he was in that draft. So that is where I would put him, Far behind McJesus, and slightly behind Eichel , but ahead of D. Strome

I can't list my 2nd main keeper as there are too many players, but it is a keep all H2H points-only league

If Matthews' coach from last year, Marc Crawford, is right, this guy is shooting center, Sakic-like, but built like a tank. I think he will be ahead of Eichel, but might be my Leaf-senses messin me up.
“I’ve had some really good players at a young age. Whether it was Peter Forsberg, Jamie Benn, the Sedins, Anze Kopitar, this guy has better stick skills, and better puck protection skills than any of those guys had at the same age. He really, really, has a great ability to carry his speed through the neutral zone and he’s difficult to defend against.”

    Hoping he's Messier to Gretzky

Has anyone heard an update on contract talks? Lou doesn't want to give a bonus and Mathews wants the same contract as McDavid... so Mathews and Co. think he is similar to McDavid.

He got the same contract as McDavid. (Max bonuses) (his agent will sell it that way haha all business these days)

I think Mathews would be like Eichel but with better two way play.

I like more of a Tavares comparison to Matthews. As others have said, I think he has a bit more upside than Toews.

Lots of Kopitar comparisons as well. Speaks a lot toward his 2-way play at 18. A LOT

I think the idea is that Matthews will be a defensively responsible center capable of putting up 80+ points. I personally see him with a higher upside than Toews or Kopitar, so Tavares (who has broken 80 points twice) seems like a more accurate comparison.

I don't see the Toews vs. Crosby thing to be honest - more like Seguin or Tavares vs. Crosby.

McDavid should be a 95-105 player in his prime - career year around 115.

Matthews should be a 85-95 player in his prime - career year around 105.

McDavid is the better player and more potent scorer but Matthews will be a PPG+ player in his prime.

That said, I think Matthews vs. Eichel is a better comparison - these guys should be close - both a level below McDavid.
