Default Off Season, Pre-Draft Moves. How did I Do?

Started this off season with 2 split time goalies, and two draft picks, #2 and #4. Made some trades, here they are:

    Trade #1
Panarin, Donskoi, 2019 4th round rookie draft pick
    For
Bishop, 2016 27th rookie draft pick

    Trade #2
    Allen, Gillies
    For
Andersen, 2016 25th rookie draft pick

    Trade #3
    4th overall rookie draft pick
    For
14th and 17th overall rookie draft picks

So, I acquired two number #1 goalies(Andersen could be a split time this year still?), plus acquired a total of 5 relatively high draft picks(5 round rookie draft).

    How did I do?

What rookies will be available possibly around the 14, 17, 25 and 27th picks? Just 2016 draftees? Or some from previous drafts as well? I like trade 1. Not the biggest fan of the other 2. Anderson could end up on a team that hurts his value. So that deal all comes down to where he goes. And the 4th overall pick comes down too who will be available for those picks.

All of this years picks plus any player under 22 years old not selected from prior years drafts. List is too big plus people from my pool are on here as well, don't want to tip my hand and let them in on my plans. I'll report after the draft to update who iwas able to pick up with the draft picks.

It all depends on who's available at 4 vs 14 n 17. If I'm going back in draft from the 4 spot I want a lot of juice. Last year I traded pick 3 for 8/9/14. To me I would need a 2017 #1 in there too. Looking at your league being points only as well as a cap league you did ok in trade 1, there aren't too many contract that beat panarin 800k as well as you being in a 9 team league so everyone has 2 to 3 goalies. Trade 2 I'm not a fan, you have Anderson vs Allen and give up Gillies for pick 25. Gillies is the future in Calgary he had good stats to start in the ahl and he was obviously great in college. I think you went lateral unless you hit a home run at 25.

I like trade #1, you could afford to give up some scoring for a solid #1 goalie and Panarin's scoring in 16-17 is open to question. Not a fan of #2 or #3. In #2, no one knows where Andersen ends up - could be worse than the timeshare in Anaheim. Plus I like Gillies as a future piece. Whatever Calgary does will be for 2-3 years until Gillies is ready (and it could be sooner). Trade #3, I go by the "best player in the deal" rule. A guy you pick at #4 has a lot better shot at being an effective NHL player sooner than the two later picks. I don't know your roster limits, but it may also burn a roster spot that could be occupied by someone better.

    I like trade #1.

    Not sure about trade #2.
Andersen might stay in ANH and split time just like Allen.

    I don't like trade #3.

I hate trade #3. I would much rather have the 4th pick overall, but if you really need more players and can't add players from waivers after the draft, it may work out okay.

Trade #2 is okay. You can probably get a guy like Gillies at 25th overall, and the main goalies are likely to be roughly a wash, depending on who gets moved or seizes a job. No way to know if it's agood deal until that shakes out.

Trade #1 is solid, as it addresses a need, and you can trade from depth.

I like #1 and #2 in that order. Don't like #3. I think the drop from 4 to 14 will be more significant than what 17 will make up for. You'll need a combination of good drafting and luck to win that one.

So, at 14 I took Mike Matheson and at 17th I took Jussi Saros. 25 and 27 are yet to happen. The person with my fourth pick took Tkachuck. I like my return on this one.

So, after all of my moves to go from a second OA and fourth OA(I took Laine at 2, Tkachuk went at 4 to the person I traded the pick to), I was able to draft in order, Matheson at 14, Saros at 17, Soderstrom at 25, and Vrana at 27.

Does this change anyone's opinion from previous posts on trading down from the 4th overall?

I don't think it's that black and white. Immediate production from Matheson, and from the D spot, plus having Saros as a decent goalie prospect is not bad. Tkachuk should become the best player, but probably not by miles, and that is what a 2 for 1 trade should look like.

I disagree, I do think it's that black and white. As I'm sure you know D take a long time to produce, and with Yandle there now I can't see how Matheson will be very productive. With Saros, he's a small goalie and we all know how many small goalies that have success in the NHL there are. To me it just seems likely that Saros amounts to nothing more than a backup and with Matheson I'm not betting on success anytime soon. Give me Tkachuk every time. I'll concede that there is no guarantee that Tkachuk sees success but the odds are much greater he will and he will be given every opportunity to do so, I don't think Matheson and Saros will get that opportunity.
