[Rumor] Flames contact Pens about Fleury

I was thinking about this trade yesterday. As a Devils fan (and Schneider fan), I want Schneider to get traded ASAP. Reasons:

-The Devils have a bottom 3 roster. Schneider can make a case for being a top 5 goalie. He just prevents them from rebuilding and they prevent him from winning in his prime. It's a sad struggle
-I have to think the return for him would be better than Bo Horvat, so it's not like the Devils moved backwards
-Wedgewood and Blackwood are both decently promising prospects
-The goalie market is clearly at a point where they could get a serviceable replacement if they decided to deal arguably the most valuable goalie available
-I do not think the Devils have given Schneider any incentive to want to sign a long term extension

I don't know, may not be the right thread for this, but it just hurts to see such a great goalie on such a bad team.

I think that's a seriously good point... I know you mentioned this might not be the right spot to get this started but... meh. I think he would fetch a significant return from Calgary... more than Fleury IMO... I would hope. TO might have some currency in that regard as well, but I cant imagine it would be an easy move to make for the Devils.

He signed a seven year contract extension two summers ago that kicked in last year. He has six years remaining with a NTC I believe

Smart move by Calgary, if they can do it at a reasonable price. If I'm Pitt., I ask for a roster D-man and a pick. I think if it goes down Calgary can and should get away with picks only. We'll see.

Why would Calgary give up anything too tanglible when they can take a run at Reimer and will cost them nothing?

Everyone knows Flames need goaltending and as someone pointed out if Trevelling wasn't kicking tyres on him then he wouldn't be doing his job but right now I don't see it happen . Could I see this happening if they miss out through free agency? Yes but right now I can't see it

I also feel Reimer gets an unfair rap as he carried the Leafs to the play offs the last time they made it and he took them to within five minutes of eliminating Boston. His reputation has had a shoeing for that loss and I am not entirely convinced it is deserved... don't forget Fleury's recent play off track record is hardly stellar the last few appearances

You are kind of contradicting yourself here. At one point you are saying that MAF is far and away a better goalie than Reimer (who isn't a bad NHL goalie himself), but in another statement you are saying you don't want to give up too much for Fleury.

It's like you want your cake and you want to eat it too.

And Wideman is a buyout candidate for the Flames. I refer you to the Bickell trade that just happened if you want Wideman part of any trade. You'd have to add to trade Wideman to deal him, let alone getting Fleury.

This was my first thought too was Brodie would be a good fit to fill a need.

I don't know if you guys insanely overrate Fleury, insanely underrate Brodie, or are just insane. But Brodie for Fleury is not happening in any form, in any iteration.

Brodie is a top pairing dman on a great contract. Enough with that talk.

Wideman (salary retained), Colborne, Jokipakka and picks are what might interest the Pens.
