Default SJ back up next year?

Hey guys do the Sharks acquire a back up via trade or free agency?
Or do they gave a shot to Aaron Dell and or Troy Grosenick behind Jones.

Which one do you prefer Dell or Grosenick?

I'd expect them to sign someone with experience to backup Jones but if I had to choose between Dell or Grosenick I'd say Grosenick but that's just a guess.

Dell or a UFA. Grosenick has done nothing to earn a promotion.

I think it very likely they go with a UFA at a reasonable salary. If Jones struggles or goes down with an injury, I wouldn't have enough confidence in Dell or Grosenick to backstop a contending team.
Reimer is a great option but probably too pricy. Johnson, Montoya, Enroth, and maybe even Hutton/Gustavsson, would be my short list of best guesses.

There's tons of backups available so they won't have to pay much to get one. I don't think the backup comes from within; likely just grab Johnson or someone for a buck fifty.

I agree with the others. San Jose is going to sign a back up goalie for next season.

This may be my total ignorance when dealing with salaries but is the general consensus really that Reimer will be a pricey sign? I mean, he's essentially been a back up (tandem at best) and continues to be a back up in San Jose. Why would his price tag be all that high?

    Honest question here.

I think in terms of backups, he would be pricier then say a Montoya or Hutton. Reimer will be looking for much of the same. 12 mil over 3 or 4 years.

I can see that if he can sign somewhere that wants him as a #1, or even in a challenge for #1 (say Calgary, Carolina). But if he can't land a starters type contract, I wonder what it would cost to lock him up...even for a 1 or 2 year one of the best teams in the west. That's how Bernier, Jones and even Skrivens (less so and all with LA) managed to springboard their careers as expected starters.

Took all those guys (Talbot included) an extended time of high level of play (thanks largely in part to injuries to the #1 (Quick/Lundy) in order to get teams to bite on them as solutions to their goalie problems. I haven't seen Reimer in that light yet.

Interesting to consider for me at least.

+1 to this! There are wayyyyy too many goalies available this offseason, starters and backups alike! I don't think a team like SJ will have any trouble finding their man at a reasonable price.

To answer the OP, I don't think Dell or Grosenick will be that guy, but just for kicks, I'd go with Dell.
