I'll go with Backstrom and Giroux as well. A bonus with Giroux is that he hits as well, which helps if he's struggling a bit offensively. Also, other than perhaps MacKinnon due to youth, these two likely have the highest perceived value so others will be more easily obtainable in the draft. Kessel is an interesting one but I'm just not there yet compared to my choices.

Giroux and one of MacKinnon or Kessel for me in this format. As good as Backstrom is, there are no PPP counted here and his 130SOG (or so) clearly don't make him more valuable than a guy like Kessel or Mack that will dish out at least twice as many. Even if Backs outpoints either Mack or Kessel by 10-15 points (I doubt he does for Kessel), the heavy SOG players will be worth more in this format IMO.

I'm with Bass on this. The format isn't conducive to keeping Backstrom. I would go Giroux and Kessel.

Re: SOG and Backstrom. It's a fair point, and I'm hoping he can bounce back a bit, and perhaps MacKinnon is better for balance. However, in a keep 2, it's essentially a one-year league and I want the two best offensive players on my team for next year, and that would be Giroux and Backstrom. Sure, it's really only A and P but he'll be high end in those categories, and I can draft the rest. As mentioned above, Kessel is interesting, but I'm just hesitant to choose him as a #2.
HockeyProphet, in what position are you drafting? There will only be 22 players kept, so given the talent likely available I'm not worried about filling all the categories with my first two picks. It really comes down to how you like to structure your team and the players first available in your draft. You might be able to get one of the bubble keepers with your first pick.
Also, just curious, what type of league (H2H, Roto etc.)?

Backstrom and Kessel will likely have similar point totals next year.
And FOW, which may favor Backstrom, is a toss up on many nights.
SOG, however is category that Phil Kessel will win you on most nights.
