Default The Lowdown on Stamkos and Blood Clots

I found this article by the Godfather Bobby Mac to be very enlightening. I learned a lot and thought it was worth a share:

I'm thinking that he won't be back in the playoffs now...

He was on TSN radio the other day talking about this. But hopefully people realize the difference between him and players like Fleischman, Dupuis, etc. And also realize that blood-cots more so based on genetics and not a side effect of hockey (as I've heard some try to suggest).

Maybe they kinda knew about this issue before, where he could play with it, but they had to be cautious, and then it got to the point where he had to be shutdown. Would explain his use on the PP….

Stamkos and Yzerman will play it smart.

There is no way they are going to jeopardize his career by coming back too early.

I'm wondering if he doesn't play at all in the playoffs, if there's at all a chance that he signs a one year bridge deal? Between having 2 straight seasons at less than a PPG and now the concerns about his health, I wonder if over the long term, playing a year and trying to get back to 80pts would help drive a higher long term contract value? I know it's not likely to happen (plus Stamkos would risk getting hurt and missing out on lucrative long term deal). I'm sure there will be a bidding war. But I wonder if the smart GMs out there, who are the ones with better teams that Stamkos would probably want to play on, will pull back on $s or years they'd be willing to commit to with some of these lingering questions?

I think the teams who are serious about Stamkos aren't concerned about this at all and won't affect their minds in regards to what they plan on spending on Stamkos.

There may have been some teams who are on the fence on chasing him and this may affect this decisions.

I dont think there are many who are serious about offering up big bucks to Stamkos (either due to cap constraints or for whatever reasons) so I doubt any of what we are seeing today changes anything for those teams.
