    Default Calder Trophy Nominees!

    Gostisbehere, McDavid and Panarin.

No surprises. I own both Ghost and McDavid but Panarin has to get my vote.

Larkin with the snub, but these are the best choices.

the best three were nominated, and it will be close. Panarin however was the most deserving.

    Panarin deserves this forsure!!

I can however see the current rules for rookie of the year being altered sooner rather than later!!

Had McDavid not gotten injured, and still played as well as he did upon his return all season, then the award was his to lose.

But life isn't always what you imagine, and Panarin takes the Calder.

No way should the NHL change the rookie rule. I'm assuming that you mean they should lower the age or restrict guys who've played in the KHL/SEL/Finnish Liiga or maybe the Swiss League? If you believe that the NHL is the best league in the world, then it shouldn't matter if you've played in another pro league because no matter what, it's a step up. Should Auston Matthews be ineligible because he played in the Swiss League? What about Patrik Laine because he's played the last couple of seasons in Finland's top pro league? I'm also against giving bonus marks simply for being younger. You're either a rookie or you're not. Just my two cents.

How can an eight-year vet who made millions be eligible?

This is Panarins' but if Scott was a rook this year, look out!

I didn't realize how much money a player made before getting to the NHL was a criteria. A veteran of an inferior league should still be eligible for the Calder and is, as long as they are 26 by Sep 15 of their rookie NHL season. Just look at a guy like David Rundblad - absolutely dominated the SEL and he can't even make it as a 7th D in the NHL.

I do agree with you that if John Scott were eligible, he would get enough votes to finish in 4th place. I mean, he was an All-Star after all.

John Scott is the 8-year vet although Panarin has played pro almost that long as well so I can see why you are confused.

May the fantasy hockey gods bless you and help you get over your intense hatred of John Scott.

The already changed the rookie rules way back in '90 when a sprout, young, 31-year-old Sergei Makarov won the Calder for the Calgary Flames. I don't think they change them again but who knows.

Either way, I think Panarin wins this award.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing that the rules should be changed.. I just think with all the chatter the NHL may look at this and may modify the rules a little.. To be honest, I'm on the fence and don't really mind that Panarin is going to win the award..

Panarin did play parts of 7 years in the KHL and is 24 years old.. That's a little different situation then both Matthews and Laine, Mr. Comish..

I do respect your opinion though..

John Scott should be up for every award. He is hockey's version of Chuck Norris.
