    Default Damon Severson upside?

Seems like he took a step back from his rookie season. What are some expectations for him next season and beyond? Will he ever be New Jersey's go to guy on offense?

I owned Severson for a good portion of this year. Obviously, he was a disappointment for his owners. It's hard to gauge his upside after this season because I think coaching really held him back. For whatever reason Hynes insisted on not giving DS any rope. He barely played on the PP and was scratched many times. I think that Severson will eventually become a top pair Dman, but how long that will take will depend on where he plays. A trade could be the best thing for Damon. It's clear that he hasn't gained the full trust of the head coach.

Next season 30 points. Career upside 40-45 points.

I had DS this year too, and often wondered why he wasn't getting much PP time. Agree with Big Baby that he is probably a 40+ point guy once he hits his stride.

At 21-years-old, we haven't seen the best of Severson yet. Not even close.

I agree that he has 40+ pt potential long term. Dont give up early on this kid.

I was about to point that out. He's 21 and played his second season already, many didn't even play a single game in that age.

You will probably have to wait another 3 or even 4 years, but i think it will be worth it. I'm also in the group seeing him at 40-45 points.

Especially on that New Jersey team, it will probably be a slow progression.

I think he has more upside than 40-45pts; kind of like Barrie.

Long term project but if the signs start pointing up he's someone I would pick up in a hurry.

Definitely going to be targeting him as a late round flier in a few leagues next year

I agree and it brings up a different question. How will this slow progression affect him? Will he gradually improve (never an automatic) or will the lack of scoring around him end up exposing some flaws and hurt him? It's tough for dmen to fully develop and not everyone makes it in the long run.

He'll be 22 at the start of next season and he has done well for himself so far but I prefer acknowledging risk where I see it. Next year I'd be happy with 25-30 points. I wouldn't expect 40 until much later in his 20s when he and the Devils have had several years to mature.

I could definitely get behind that assessment.
