Shoot. Not going to go into details about secret picks but got him as a secret pick in our draft pool between rounds 4 and 5, then got him again in the 5th round. So he is 2 of our 11 picks in our draft. Rats. Of all the pool luck. Sure hope it's a minor issue...for his and the NYR's sake.

Wow really nice words, keep that up. You need to have enough force, the right angle and the right stick. It will probably only happen one out of 20.000 times, but i can happen to any goalie.
It happened to Fleury in 2015, but he just got a cut and played on. I don't know about any other case where it happened, so it's rare but possible.
The so called cat eye cages are allowed in the NHL and i don't know any goalie not having it. Might be different in junior and minor leagues, where they probably have to wear certified cages, but this is the NHL and this is where Lundqvist plays.

Junior leagues don't tend to allow cats eye cages but most adult leagues do - as highlighted it has to be the right angle and strength to get it through it and this is ddefinitely a 'freak' accident - like a puck hitting someone's eye under a visor - it can happen
Have to agree with the sentiment though - Raanta has done well but you would think Hank could have outbattled Zatkoff... now goaltending just got evened out

Someone will invent a cage where this won’t happen. Tim Thomas I think was the last guy to have an altered cage/helmet that he helped design to better increase safety, and comfort.
I remember when someone on the Leafs yrs ago got a puck stuck in the cat eye of Patrick Lalaime’s cage on a shot. The issue is, just like most things, someone will have to have their career end/close to ending until something is done.
It happens more often than you think each yr in the NHL, but unless the goalie gets hurt you don’t hear about it. I’m pretty sure this happened to Bernier or Reimer to start the yr too. I would say it happens 10times a yr-ish. Not enough to change a rule until someone literally loses an eye.
