Not much fantasy value but the Sens seem excited about this signing and that he will make his way over to North America next season and that he has a legit chance of making the Sens with a good training camp.

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed defenceman Andreas Englund to a three-year entry-level contract.

Englund, 20, recently completed his second season with Djurgårdens of the Swedish Hockey League, scoring two goals and adding four assists in 46 games. His season came to an end with a 5-1 loss in Game 5 of the team’s best-of-seven SHL semifinal series against Frölunda on March 24.

The 6-4, 200-pound Englund served as captain of Sweden’s U20 team at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. He also joined the Swedish Senior Men’s National Team for two games as part of the Euro Hockey Tour in February of this year.

Englund was the Senators second-round selection (40th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft.

I gather he's kind of a defensive specialist, too...we could kind of use a guy like that. Really hope he works out. Our defense could go from a weakness to a strength pretty fast with yet another piece like this. Karlsson-Methot, Phaneuf/Ceci, Englund/Wideman/Borowiecki/whoever. Not bad at all. Hopefully we get a coach that knows what he's doing and we could easily be in the playoffs again in 2016/2017.

or better yet an Owner that isn't cheap as **** so the coach doesn't get blamed for not making the playoffs with a pretty bad defensive group

It's hard to put this all on spending, praba. They spend more than the Ducks, and they're more or less on par with the Islanders and Panthers salary-wise. When the team scores like a playoff team and allows goals like a lottery team, it's a good indication there's something fundamentally flawed with the team's system.
