Default Seeking advice regarding pitching depth...

    10 Team / 4 keeper / Yahoo H2H
    Position Players: C-1B-2B-3B-SS-LF-CF-RF-OF-UTIL
    Stats: R-H-HR-RBI-SB-TB-AVG-OPS
    Pitchers: SP x2 - RP x2 - P x3
    Stats: W-SV-K-ERA-WHIP-K/BB-K/9-QS
    Bench: x5 + DL x2

My draft was last night and I am very pleased with how my draft turned out. I had a look at my team this morning and compared it to the other teams in my league and realized I was the only team that doesn't have any pitchers on the bench. I drafted 5 starters and 2 relievers and used all 5 bench spots for positional players and I've realized this may have been a mistake. I'm pretty new to fantasy baseball (only in my second year) and am still learning the ins and outs as it is far different from fantasy hockey. Here is my drafted team...

    C - Posey
    1B - Votto
    2B - Russell
    3B - Moustakas
    SS - Tulowitzki
    LF - Peralta
    CF - Trout
    RF - Bautista
    OF - B. Hamilton
    UTIL - Teixeira
    BN - Wong
    BN - Plouffe
    BN - Realmuto
    BN - Kendrick
    BN - DeShields

    SP - Sale
    SP - Syndergaard
    RP - Familia
    RP - H. Rondon
    P - Stroman
    P- McCullers
    P - Matz

I was thinking of dropping a couple of my bench players but not sure who. Is it necessary to carry a backup catcher? I also have far too much depth at 1B and 2B so are those better options, was thinking Kendrick should go first? If I drop two positional players do I pick up 2 SP or 1 SP/1 RP? Here are some of the guys I am considering. All players are on waivers for 2 days following the draft but that doesn't affect me as I'm at the bottom of the league for claims.

Drew Smyly (seems to be highest consensus ranked pitcher available from various online rankings)
    Santiago Casilla
    Luis Severino
    Kenta Maeda
    Kyle Hendricks
    Mike Leake
    Roberto Osuna (RP)
    Marco Estrada
    JJ Hoover (RP)
    Edinson Volquez
    Aaron Sanchez (SP/RP)

So where do I go from here? I'll rep whoever responds if the site allows me to. Haven't been able to rep some people because the site says I have to spread around the love first haha.

I'd have no issues dropping Howie Kendrick for any of Smily, Kenta, Hendricks or Severino. I think all four of those pitchers will end up with similar numbers.

I would also drop Kendrick for Smyly or Severino and maybe Wong for Osuna or Casilla to get some saves

As of now I put in a waiver claim for Drew Smyly, dropping Howie Kendrick. I have also decided to pick up a second pitcher off waivers but I can't decide who to take between my available options. What I do know is it'll be Realmuto who gets dropped. Which pitcher is my best option and considering who I have already. which would benefit my team more, another SP or a RP?

My preference would be Maeda and Severino for your two adds. All three options Smyly as well are great adds for you. Really surprised they were not drafted. Which waiver claim position do you have? Does it reset weekly or do you go to the back and move up as the season goes on?

I currently sit at the bottom of the waiver list because I drafted first overall. The waiver list is a continuous rolling list so if I put in 1, 2, 3 or more claims it doesn't matter at this point. Also, I was thinking of adding a RP instead of a second SP. I really can't seem to decide but in the end I don't think the decision will be all that important because I like to use one roster spot for streams week-to-week based on category needs considering it is a H2H league.

Unfortunately my waiver claim for Smyly didn't go through, someone ahead of me grabbed him. I did manage these changes though..

Well done. And you saved your last place waiver position! lol

Pitching depth is huge....so you can do matchups....hitters....you want to just dress your best hitters all the time.
Contract Fantrax 14 teams, 8 keepers. 4 max lifers +/-
    3C, 3LW, 3RW, 1F. 5D,2G....5Reserves.
    Goal heavy. G=3.5 A=2 Add 0.5pts for D.
    Goalies:W=3,SO=4,start=2,Save=.1
    Assist +4, OF loss +1 loss= -1 Goal against -1

Unfortunately I made the mistake of only drafting enough pitchers to fill the roster spots and had no pitchers on my bench. I missed out on some good talent by making this error but I feel like I've made some good moves via free agency to adjust for my mess up. Updated roster in my signature, also managed to add Aaron Sanchez once Lance McCullers was placed on the DL.
