San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has acquired goaltender James Reimer (RIGH-muhr) and forward Jeremy Morin (moh-REHN) from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Alex Stalock, forward Ben Smith and a conditional 2018 fourth round draft selection.

yea i wasnt initially that happy with the return as i would rather have kept reimer but then i remembered reimer can still steal us games and stalock sucks.

Wow, little upset that Reimer is gone. Doesn't sound like they even got a lot for him. Stalock is a UFA this offseason.

Reimer was the longest tenor Leaf, wonder who it is now. Kadri and Bozak both were 2009 acquisitions.

maybe it was to get rid of salary for the trade deadline.

This kind of return only makes sense if:
A) Leafs and Reimer have an unspoken agreement to pull a Winnik and return in the summer, and
B) The real reason for the trade is to remove all possible threats for a Leafs goalie to steal wins (aka the Tim Murray plan)

Otherwise, this return is horrible for the Leafs.

With Ben Smith and Stalock both UFA's at seasons end, they basically traded Reimer for a 4th in 2018.

I realize there are lots of goalies out there, and many consider Reimer a backup, but that's not a good return for a guy who actually has starter potential. He's better than a regular NHL backup goalie. Right now, he's probably better (numbers wise) than some of the starters out there.

I think Reimer might really like it in SJ and try to sign. Especially if they make a decent run in the playoffs.
