Hmmm... I don't know.

Maybe the hit was clean, honestly I looked at the footage once and it was too fast for me to tell. But obviously Kadri didn't get the benefit of a slow motion replay. All he knows at that point is he got is bell rung pretty badly and there was contact with his head (face). I can understand him thinking in the heat of the moment he was on the bad end of a bad hit and being upset about it. Maybe in hindsight he's wrong, but in the heat of the moment some choice words and a dumb threat are somewhat understandable IMO.

I understand it's a bad example for kids. But I definitely don't think it's worthy of a suspension. In the end of the day, it's my job as a parent to let my kids know unequivocally that this kind of gesture have no place in children's sports. As for guys who behave like idiots in beer leagues, they're going to remain idiots regardless of how the Kadris of this world behave,

The NHL is SO concerned about their public image, that a throat-slashing gesture is a suspendable offence? They allow bare-knuckle fighting FFS..

Let's be real here. Nobody thinks for one second that somebody's life is seriously being threatened here, do they? What if somebody on the ice made their index finger and thumb into a makeshift gun and pretended to shoot people with it? Would that be worthy of a suspension? Considering there are 30 thousand gun related deaths per year in the US, that to me is much more offensive and more likely to turn into reality, than a silly throat-slashing gesture. Relax. The Undertaker has been doing it for years. It doesn't mean anything..

His should did make contact with his head. But it wasn’t the principal point of contact. But Kadri just felt Gio hit his chin, which blew Kadri up.

I'd say 5k is a nice number.
The NHL had to reprimand him... but, at the same time, an actual game suspension would've set a tough precedent for future cases (& opened can-of-worms for past-cases).
This way, every player can basically know they'll be losing some of their own pocket money.

It's an appropriate slap on the wrists, IMO.
