Petan has more pro skill imo. Dont think mantha will ever translate and never been a fan. Don't see high upside with either but Petan is a much better skater and knows how to use teammates far better.

What worries me about Mantha is how is he going to be brought up in DET. Not sure about his oportunity to translate his potential into actual production.

Why would that worry you? Most of the players in Detroit today were "brought up" in the Detroit system. Just because they show patience with their prospects shouldn't scare you. If anything, it should give you hope that they are continuing to their standard order of practice with their prospects.
People expected too much from Mantha too soon because he was a 1st round pick. As soon as everyone reels back their expectations and can see that he's still a prospect learning the pro game, they will be more realistic in their expectations. His second season in Grand Rapids is already a huge improvement compared to last year. The fact he's healthy this year has helped too. Lets not forget the kid broke his leg last year which set back his development.

I do like Petan as a prospect but I prefer Mantha when we are looking long term.

The fact that he isn't dominating ahl shows he wasn't as good as people made him out to be. In junior he played half the game and simply dominated against kids half his size and the years younger.

What I wanted to say is basically this. I'm not sure he can be as good as people expect him to be point and fantasy-wise. Both because he was probably overrated and because I believe Detroit will not put him in a position where he can completely maximize his potential, just that.

Would have gone with Petan if you asked me this summer but Mantha's big improvement in the AHL so far this season gives him the edge. To those saying it's not even close, well I think you're way off.
