Canada's D has been pretty bad. Hicketts has no business being on the team for me.

I think Blackwood was going to play in the third game regardless. McDonald hasn't had a strong season in PEI and to be honest I was surprised when he even made the team.

What other Senators prospect should have been there over Hicketts?

Canada winning or losing in the WJC never comes down to who is in nets. This team doesn't have a ton of talent, at least not as much as usual. Joe Hicketts is on the top pair and Point is the captain. Not great signs.

I agree - but if MacDonald stood on his head in game 1 & 2 then Blackwood starting game 3 wouldn't be a slam dunk - now it is.

no big deal for Canada. the big game is against Sweden. as long as they beat Sweden, they don't have to face Russia or finland in the quarter-finals. and blackwood has been the key for them all along. he has the ability to steal the tournament for them. feeling much better about picking him after seeing McDonald lose today (although I didn't want Canada to lose).
anyone know why samsonov (my other goalie) didn't play today?
and curious, did anyone else besides for me take strome as their captain? or did everyone go with either marner, nylander or Matthews?

ps can us hicketts owners get credit for the goal he scored on his own net?!

I'm hoping they go with Montembeault next game to be honest. I doubt they do, but it wouldn't upset me if they did.

I disagree. MA Fleury did not play a good tournament in his junior year and cost them a gold medal. Of course, I know you are just trying to get a reaction from anyone you can in here, as opposed to trying to engage in anything meaningful....

edit: provided the usa beats Sweden as well, which I believe they will do.

No I'm not. How am I trying to get a reaction with what I just replied to you? I have said nothing in this thread trying to get a reaction from anybody. Grow up, people. I might as well not post during the WJC since all the Canadians are so riled up about it.

wouldn't surprise me at all. even before they lost this one I had a hunch that he gets the next start. after losing, it only increases the chances.

Every time i watch Hicketts play I wonder what all the fuss is about. He is also pretty small for a D.

    What do you all think?
Worth considering. Although it would basically mean most people would pick two of Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden. With so few games and most teams sharing starts I wonder how much goalie selection predicts overall success.
