Default Snow turns down Buf for Hammer offer.

I'm not surprised considering he'd be a very expensive rental.

if he could guarentee an extension maybe it would have went down. but even if he could i doubt he would have liked the contract he'd have to give, i think at minimum Buff is looking for 7x7. theyd be better off trading hamonic for someone similar skill/cap and then if buff is available as a rental closer to the TDD trade for him then.

it wouldnt be good asset management(hamonic for byf) but you have to admit , aquiring Byfuglien would give the isles a good shot in the arm towards getting out of ROUND 2 .

maybe the guy likes it in brooklyn and signs for reasonable long term deal

If there were a sweetener (like a defensive prospect) coming from the Jets the Islanders should really consider this. Byfuglien is a game changer on the Islanders.

Trouba for Hamonic would have been a much more tempting offer.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I can't blame Garth for saying no to Byfuglien, simply because he's a pending UFA. Don't get me wrong, Byfuglien is a very good player, but I don't think Garth is as interested in him as he would be in guys like Jacob Trouba or Darnell Nurse simply because of their cap situation.
If the Oilers and Jets were willing to part with those two assets, a deal would have already been made IMO. Neither the Jets nor the Oilers are willing to part with those two building blocks.

agreed. perhaps if the hamonic trade request didn't go public it might have happened, but i just don't see a GM giving up fair value when you're pretty much forced to trade him to a limited # of teams.

realistically no team will give up a similar talent D as hamonic for him, so their best bet might be to try and trade him for a winger and then move Okposo for a similar value D (Buff? both are upcoming UFAs i think).

I don't totally agree with this, if only because of Hamonic's contract. Hamonic is a bargain and that's very enticing to a GM. I think this is all a dance right now and there could be a trade involving equal type players with the Isles losing a few years or taking on salary or both, but getting a player of equal talent back. It's still a challenge, but I think something can be done. More realistic is a bigger trade involving more player, picks etc.

Not to hijack this thread (although my question is linked to the topic), but did Hamonic or his entourage finally specify the exact teams he was looking to be dealt to instead of just ''western teams'' as the initial reports stated?

I wonder if a team like Toronto may come into play? I know the distance is similar to NY, but without any boarders, the travel time is much quicker/easier. If not, his teams are very limited especially if the Jets are not willing to part with players that are signed beyond next year…
Keeper league 14 teams (H2H, 20 active players keep 16 NHLers, 16 minors)

W- Forsberg, Batherson, Nichuskin, Tuch, Konecny, Maccelli, Sharangovich, Bertuzzi, Kaliyev, Neighbours, Reichel
    D- Carlson, Rielly, Klingberg
    G- Hellebuyck, Demko, Merzlikins, Vejmelka

    Minors:

Smells to me like Big Buff wants a Big Contract when this season is done.

He's made it very clear he wants to go a western conference team.

I'm just spitballin' here, but if Hamonic's family are in MB (and if it's the same place he was born, very southern MB) wouldn't a team like Minnesota or even Chicago make sense? I haven't looked at cap numbers or if a deal would even make sense but if he's willing to go to Edmonton or even Vancouver, those two teams would have to be on the radar, no?

Minny – Their D is already really good.
Suter-Brodin. Not going on that line
Scandella-Spurgeon. Not really in a need to get Hamonic to move on that line and push one down
    Prosser-Dumba. You’d be replacing Prosser.

So do they trade a guy like Dumba? I wouldn’t. The D-core in Minny is just too strong to go out of their way and try to acquire Hamonic at his current price.

Chicago – they prolly don’t have the assets they want to move for him.

I’m pretty sure they’re locked in on western Canada, but NYI will have to broaden their scope if they want this deal done. Didn’t Hamonic request the trade back in September?

From what I have read, Hamonic has already added Minnesota as an option as a destination so that's not totally out of the question.

Avs would be a great fit if they go for a Forward then trade Okposo for a D-man.
