I saw this yesterday on twitter.

My favorite tweet from Kyte to Gallagher.

@BGALLY17 LMAO! Wow - good one. The instigator rule is the ONLY reason you are not playing in Europe.

Funny how Jim Kyte became HockeyDB's top trending profile of the last day.

Kye is a professor at Algonquin now.

And he's right re: Gallagher. I don't respect the way he plays the game.

No one enjoys listening to a chihuahua dog yap and to me, that's all Gallagher is; a yappy chihuahua.

Lol, Gallagher scored more goals last season than Kyte did in 600 career games. Moving on.

What does scoring goals have to do with anything? A forward vs a defensive Dman. I don't see how the amount of goals scored plays into this.

I didn't know he was a defensive d-man, I've never heard of Jim Kyte.

Well he was a dman. Calling him defensive might be, well, offensive.

I am actually old enough to remember Jim Kyte playing. Offense wasn't part of his game. He was a shutdown type of Dman who basically hit anything in sight and would drop the mitts. He's chew up Gallagher and spit him out if Gallagher was to park his arse in front of the net he was defending. It was certainly a different game back then.

What I find funny is that there were plenty of agitators back when Kyte played and they never had a choice, they learned to tie up those big dudes when they had to. If they didn't, they'd get killed. There were smaller players who played with an edge, guys like Theo Fleury and Pat Verbeek who would battle with anyone of any size and weren't shy about dropping the gloves. I have no doubt that both Marchand and Gallagher would have been able to play back when Kyte played - they would have had their own "goons" to pound on Kyte if he got carried away anyway. They just wouldn't have had any modelling contracts and would be on a first name basis with the team dentist, but they would still be players even in that "tough" era.
