    Default Three on Three Overtime

Just curious what everyone thinks about the new 3 on 3 overtime format? I LOVE it! I've seen a few games go that distance now and the OT was so entertaining, back and forth, and fast paced. I also like that most games seem to finish before the shootout by going 3 on 3.

pretty fun. but i hate it for my goalie stats since through no real fault of your goalie your gaa may balloon when previously itd go to a shootout

I just wish they'd leave it as a tie. I've seen one three on three live (in Ottawa, versus the Rangers). 5 minutes without a whistle (literally). Odd man rush, miss the net, odd man rush the next way. It's entertaining, but it's even more gimmicky to me than the shootout.

Fun to watch but I can see why the skaters hate it. One mistake, get caught and they are toast. They get tired quickly too.

The reason for it was to reduce the shootout. I'd say it's been a success in that regard.

It's fun to watch. I'm not a big fan of it though. I think the NHL changes the game too much. There is a good chance people will say 3 on 3 is gimmicky/and or just as the shootout and the shootout was loved by most at the start. Theres a lot of rules I don't like though, the coaches challenge, the trapezoid will never sit well with me.

I'm somewhat of a purist (maybe not so much, after reading what I wrote below) and I am prone to getting annoyed when the rules change every year, but I like it. It's entertaining and it showcases a different skill set - a skill set that I vastly prefer to much of what is on display during 5 on 5 hockey. People can argue all they want about the sanctity of the game, but the fact of the matter is that the game changes over time, and the rules need to (in my opinion) change along with it. I don't necessarily agree that there NEEDS to be more scoring or less shootouts, but it's awesome to watch, so what the hell. If it goes stale and they change it in 5 years, so be it. This stuff isn't precious.

I do definitely agree that leaving it as a tie would be best, but I would much rather have my team lose in 3 on 3 OT than in a shootout. I feel that this is the lesser or two evils and yes, very exciting to watch!

I love it. Like, really, really love it. I literally tune into random games just to see it. Great stuff.

I love it. I have not yet seen a 3 on 3 that hasn't been incredibly entertaining.

I hate it...so boring and just a rope a dope keep away game until a scoring chance or team gets tired. I actually turn off the game once it enters OT now, and I am a huge hockey fan.

    Make it simple.

    3 points for regulation win
    2 points for OT win
    1 point for a tie.

Teams will push offence to gain the extra points.

That doesn't exactly scream 'simple' to me. If anything, go back to a 2 point system. 2 for win, 0 for loss, 1 for tie. The 3 point bull**** is what got us to where we are.

I like it. To take it to the next level, they should go 3 on 2 in penalty situations in OT rather than moving to 4 on 3.
