    Default Trouba

So what's the deal with Trouba? He's taken a huge step back from last season. He's been paired with a pylon named Stuart all year round, is not getting any PP time and until last game's 2-point "outburst" had 5 points in his last 40-ish games. That is just awful production even for someone being stuck with Stuart. Are people still high on Trouba long-term? I mean he was super hyped a couple of years ago but there is truly some very good potential in him, I think. What's gone wrong and is he still likely to reach fantasy studhood? He does have that multi-cat potential that is very desirable in my league that counts g,a,pim,hits,bs,+/- and ppp.

I have him on my team but he is just taking up salary cap space that I could use to pick up more productive players. I'm trying to decide if I should hold onto him. The players I would be replacing him with are either non-keepers but will help fill a need now.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

My league is salary cap roto style with 16 teams and we count G, A, PPP, PIM, +/-, HITS, BS. We start 4 D weekly and I have Burns, Klingberg, Josi and Lindholm as my other 4 D.

I think he's going to be a stud, but the wait is going to be long..

When I watched him play his rookie year, the talent was undeniable and he kept it up the whole season. He was playing defensively responsible while flashing his offence. His second year was a little step back but he was playing less sheltered minutes so I figured it was just a sophomore slump. This year, he just hasn't been playing that well and he's back to being sheltered.

The trend is discouraging, and I've been trying to shop him for about a year for someone that can help me now; but I know eventually he's going to breakout. It'll be several years until that point if both Buff and Myers stays. He'll have to get consistently elite to get PP time. It'll still be a while even if one of them gets traded. So long story short, he's going to be good but I'm not sure the wait is going to be worth it. For leagues with no farm system, we're talking about maintaining a roster spot for mediocre production for a couple more years..

Then again that goal yesterday was pretty sick. He has the talent to flip that switch, so 30pts is still a possibility this year.

Hes a young Dman. Most Dmen don't even start to hit their stride until 25; he's 21.

Patience is at a premium in my salary-cap-no-farm league

Thanks for the feedback guys. This is a a hard decision. He does have the potential but how long before he reaches it is the big question. I hate to drop him just to have him turn elite in a couple of years. Happened to me with Carlson, whom I dropped the year before he broke out.

You have to remember he's still playing behind guys like Byfuglien, Enstrom and now Myers. Those guys won't be there forever and eventually Trouba will be relied on heavier than he is now. It's just a matter of time. From what I am hearing, the Jets wont move him for Hamonic so that should tell you how important he is to their future.

I do, I do. I have all these facts in my mind. I am in win-now mode (as I seem to be every year) so it may come down to how badly do I need someone else in Trouba's place. Right now, I'm in good shape and I can hold onto him but at some point in the season if more injuries strike, things may not be so easy.

Oh and the other thing that is worth mentioning is that he'll probably get a cap-friendly bridge contract, given he's struggled this year, which would be good for my salary cap league.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

If you are in a win now mode, sell him to a GM with a better Dman then Trouba is today. I am sure you wouldnt have any issues moving him if you tried. I can tell you that you will probably regret as he progresses but it's a choice you may have to make. The fact he's played as much as he has, in the situations he as, as a 21 year old is impressive in its own right.

Another consideration: Winnipeg fans I've spoken with seem comfortable with the concept of the Jets offering Trouba + to bring Travis Hamonic home.

If Trouba goes to Brooklyn, does he get a bump short-term?

That's what I'm afraid of And there is no way I'm going to get good value for him now.

That's fans though. I heard GM is not willing to trade Trouba for Hamonic.

He's worthless in my league too.

Unfortunately, he's the kind of player you sit on with the intention of using at some point; he's not the kind of player you sit on in hopes of selling high.
