Dropped E. Staal for Stastny
Team was in the doldrums this year, and Staal was surely not showing any signs of breaking out back to previous 70+, at 31 yrs old. At an $8.25m hit, he was hurting with points in only 10 of 22 games.
Stastny on the other hand should still be able to hold onto a 60+ season, at a $7m hit. The math adds up, $/pts, if you compare 60+ to 70+ pts. Just that Staal may "never" reach that in Carolina again (maybe if he gets traded) while Stastny is in the midst of a collective juggernaut that "hid" his virtues last year. Not sure if he maintains a point per game but a near-to pace is logical. And I do not agree that this is risky. I can use the extra $1.25m cap space, too.
Did I score a bonus with Stastny or did I break even?

I'd rather Stastny. I think E Staal needs a change of scenery. And I don't even know if that will wake him up...

I like Stastny over Staal as well. Stastny does have the talent to score 60-65 pts while Staals career looks to be on the downside (50 pt player) but is on the verge of landing himself a big contract in the off-season if all goes well with him.

I think this is great. Save some cap space and I'd put Stastny's upside higher than Staal's. Stastny has some really great talent to play around.
