Default The Geeking-Out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens Thread!

Who here has bought their ticket already? Opening night? I would be all over that if I could, but I travel a lot for work. Will have to try and find a theatre somewhere to see it at when I get the chance.

I have no doubt minds will be blown, jaws will be dropped and pants just may be peed. What are your thoughts?

EDIT: I mistyped "Force" in the title. Sorry, it's been a long day! [I fixed that for ya! -P7]

Having been crushed by the Phantom Disappointment I am trying to tamp down expectations and not get too excited for this.

    It is not going well.

The video game Battlefront 3 has left me wanting more, and I feel like the Star Wars movie will be doing the same. I hope it doesn’t, but I can see it being a total flop, with a massive cliffhanger at the end to keep us on our seats for another one.

I clearly remember the "phase" the group of people I hang out with went through after the release of Episode I, The Phantom Menace. Most of us were sort of initially hypnotized after seeing it for the first time. We were brainwashed into thinking it was awesome the first time we saw it. It took several viewings and somebody to bravely say "that was brutal", before our group started to realize how bad it really was. I was the person who thought it was horrible the first time I saw it...

I also have never been a fan of JJ Abrams. Going in, I am trying to be optimistic, but I find my overwhelming cynicism often creeps in. I am hoping it is awesome, but I won't be surprised if we have another " The Phantom Menace " on our hands...

I know what you mean and I totally understand. For whatever reason, this one feels different to me. It feels like they know that their fanbase are likely some of the most critical people when it comes to their franchise and they're ensuring they make what the fans want. I personally love J.J. Abrams and most everything he's done/been a part of.

I guess only time will tell but every trailer they've released I've been very happy with. Got chills on that final trailer that came out a while ago!

I'm excited for it, but skeptical. I wasn't a big fan of Abrams' Star Trek movies, and the prequel movies left me with a lack of faith. I'm also worried about what they're gonna do with Luke.... If they make him a Sith I'll lose my shit.

All in all, I like the story, even the story in the prequels was interesting, so I'm sure if nothing else I'll find a reason to enjoy this movie.

Bought tickets. Looking forward to it. IT WILL BE AWESOME! (repeat over and over)
My expectations are immense, but I am also taking my daughter who is the same age I was when I saw Star Wars. Just for that reason it will be great. Nostalgia is a powerful tool.

I have always felt like the Phantom Menace and the second trilogy was judged unfairly, not because it was a masterpiece but because so very little was left to the imagination the way it was with the original. For Star Wars, we had no context or reference for anything that happened. It was just brilliance on the screen, where I got to go on the first sci-fi adventure EVER. I was in heaven. The Empire Strikes Back was my favourite movie EVER......still is.

The best sports analogy is how High Definition TV has ruined sports........ All the nuance, offsides, balls/strikes, out of bounds, penalties....... all the drama is gone because we can all criticize the refs based on watching the same play they saw ONCE, from every angle, zoomed in 50x at 1/1000 the speed. Instead of living in the moment we dissect it a million times over. We debate the refs or the call more than the play, the players or the game.

You can argue all the technical merits you want, but in a search for perfection something is lost.

Go listen to Miles Davis, Neil Young, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clapton, The Beatles, Hendrix, BB King or Pink Floyd, Prince, Rush, Kiss......etc..on VINYL......... then you will understand.

Star Wars Battlefront on the PS4 is fantastic, but I'm not too excited about the movie. I'll go see it in the theatre, but I'm not expecting much. Fool me once....

I've watched and rewatched all of the Star Wars movies, and am looking forward to this one as I believe it will be great. I enjoyed what Abrams did to reboot the Star Trek franchise, and hope he can do something similar with Han, Leia, Chewie and Luke. Some of the early story lines that have heard have great potential to be fantastic, but maybe they are way off. My favorite ...possible spoiler here...involves the reorganized Imperial forces looking to resurrect Darth Vader. I say "Yes, godammit, bring the Dark Lord back." Will have to wait like everyone else, but already have plans to take my 12 year old son to the theatre to enjoy whatever they throw at us.
