I have just read this entire thread and am speechless. Who cares about whether or not someone is a defensemen or a forward? Giroux is better than Josi by A LOT. Just get Giroux and then shop around someone like Stone, Hudler, Little, or O'Reilly for a defensemen. Giroux is a first round pick every single year for a reason - he is undeniably an elite talent capable of performing at a point per game pace. He is someone I would be willing to trade almost ANY defensemen for...

Trades rarely happen in our league and defense FA is pretty depleted compared to forward. the gain/loss was pretty close at the time and to me not worth the risk of Giroux not picking the pace up. Plus I'm really not big on Giroux, so what changes in Philly to make him start producing? I have much more confidence in Josi staying pat then Giroux picking it up. Regardless I'm much happier in the trade that was made.

Looks like he did. Traded Barrie + Stone for Giroux and picked up Spurgeon from FA pool. That sound about right?

Yes that's right. Sig changed I was also looking at Ristolainen also but decided on Spurgeon. I didn't have much time to look into both them was a little time crunched to pick up someone to have him for today (when the day changes on yahoo seems like its tied to when the standings update which is random). Numbers and situation look about the same but I think Spurgeon worked his way into a better spot then what he was at during the start of the year so went with him.

Good call with Spurgeon. I think he is a good pick and helps circumvent some of the loss of D points with losing Josi.

I traded eichel and mike smith for Giroux. I would certaintly give up Josi for him. I would jump through the screen to accept if I had your d core and got this offer

That's an even better trade then mine. Goalies have pretty much no trade value in our league. Mike Smith is just on the FA pile with probably about 4-5 goalies ahead of him that could get picked off.

You guys are really overrating how well a Josi for Giroux trade would benefit me. Sure I might be overvaluing Josi a little, but with our league settings and the hugely lack of defence available and how good my forwards are... Being the league leader the risk wasn't worth the award.

However the trade I did make suited me much better as I was replacing a lesser defensemen. The forward loss doesn't mean as much as I would of had to drop a forward anyway... albeit it would of been Vrbata but at the time of the original idea of Josi for Giroux he was on the first line and started getting points looking promising :/

And it wasn't too bad of a move for the other guy. He needed to do something to try and catch me. He had a pretty awful defense man to replace and got a solid forward producing more Fantasy points at the moment then Giroux. The hopes for him is Giroux continues to not produce at his normal career pace, while gaining points from a better defense in Tyson Barrie and slightly better fantasy point producer thus far in Stone (for the time being I hope).

To note I've noticed Stone is now off the 1st PP unit.

Seasons end and to reflect on this post I made at the start of the year. Everyone was criticizing me for not giving up Roman Josi for Giroux.
Josi finished with about 10 fantasy points less then Giroux which equates to one game of great stat line. Definitely would of been a net loss for me on my replacement Def.
However the trade that did get accepted. Tyson Barrie + Stone --> Giroux was definitely a win for me. I was able to pick up a defense that finished with practically the same amount of fantasy points as Tyson Barrie and Giroux was a nice upgrade to Stone. That's not to say it wasn't a win for my trade partner either. He was able to upgrade a position and get a replacement for an IR player.

I've really grown to the strategy of drafting around slow starters and after a few months trying to buy low on them.
