The title says it all. I typically subscribe to the "Start Your Studs" theory, but starting Fleury against a red-hot Stars team, even at home, seems to be asking for trouble.

I'm currently holding slim leads in SV% and GAA, and my opponent has King Henrik and Bobby Lou.

    "slim lead" can be vague.

If you have a .955sv% to his .944sv%... yeah, I'd probably bench my goalies and take the win in GAA/SV%.
If you have a .920sv% to his .919sv%... then no, I'm probably still rolling out my goalies.

Personally, when I get up in SV%/GAA, I like to slow-play my goalies and force the other guy to make first move.
If his goalie gets shelled, you can afford to make more starts.
If his goalie is solid, and you still lead... you may want to continue sitting on your goalie stats.

Assuming both you & he already have GREAT SV% & GAA... yeah, I'd bench Fleury.
If Fleury gets shelled, you could lose all three goalie cats - when you coulda locked in two wins.

Two in the hand, my friend.
    Two in the hand.
Don't google image that. I did. Big mistake. Well, not really... at work it could be a big mistake...

2.32 to 2.93 and .922 to .914 to be exact. And I have him 2-0 in wins as well, but it's only Thursday.

I will have to make two more starts regardless between now Sunday to make my weekly starts. I will be rolling Jones out there tonight.

This is what will likely happen as it seems to happen to me all the damn time:
Bench Fleury: He lets in 0-2 goals on ~35 shots
Play Fleury: Lets in 4 goals on ~20 shots

    It's the fantasy hockey curse!

I would start him but with little confidence he would do well, but thankfully it is early this season too! So I appear to be not much help haha

Start him. Anything can happen on any given night in hockey.

Vegas has Pittsburgh as a slight favorite on the money line, with an aggregate of about -130/+115, and the over/under at 5 1/2 goals. So the books are weakly expecting a 3-2 or 4-2 Pittsburgh victory tonight. In your case you have a decent lead in GAA and a narrow margin in SV%. I would play Fleury but not be comfortable about it, just because if he does win it really puts my opponent in the hole. It is still early enough in the week to recover if things dont go well. That is what I would do but I am not a conservative player. I would not argue with you at all if you sat Fleury based on the offense he is facing and Pittsburgh's early-season funk. But the above data is what i usually use to decide on starting Gs and those indicators would lead me to play Fleury but with reservations. Fingers crossed. Good luck.

Yes - bench him. The stars are on fire and the Pens not so much. At the best of times MAF is not an elite goaltender. He is a lot like Crawford in that regard.

With the penguins defense and the stars offense... I would bench Fleury for sure... I am guessing tonight will be a 6-4 type game.

People expected Anaheim to light up Mike Smith last week but he ended getting the shutout.

People expect Fleury to be mediocre tonight. And he may well be- but I would play him in case he has a big game > I think it outweighs the benefits of benching him. He's a solid fantasy performer and will come up with surprisingly strong performances on occasion.

I'd play Fleury with these stats in place.

    Fleury is a 2.40gaa / .920sv% type goalie.
Since your team stats are right around that mark, you might as well start him and go for a 50% shot at the win.

    P7,

The problem is those are averages and there are lots of NHL teams who have no where close to the fire power Dallas. He will beat those averages against the weaker teams and do worse than those averages against the stronger teams.

Yep, I think Crosby's three-point bonanza last game has opened up a can of whoop-ass and a 10-goal game would not surprise me in the least. As for what team wins, I think it's a toss-u. I think momentum has a huge factor to do with how well teams play, and I think, though Dallas has won 4 games in a row, Pittsburg now getting back on track with 3 of their own so if I was a betting man I'd give Pittsburg the slight edge tonight.

6-4 PIT (empty-net goal). It will be an offensive barrage tonight.

...and here is where I expect the fantasy gods impart their collective wrath on us for second guessing them, with a goalless draw that gets resolved in the first 45 seconds of 3-on-3 OT!
