I agree with this , they wouldn't have resigned him , so I think they move Hiller and go with Ramo and Ortio!

Hard to accurately predict, but questions will be answered by today - either the flames will waive hiller/ramo/ortio or enter the season with 3 goalies. Also keep in mind that all three of these goalies have one way contracts.


Salaries: Ortio - 600K
Hiller - 4.5 million, last year of contract
Ramo - 3.8 million, newly inked

The Calgary Sun reports that Ortio is the biggest lock to make the team this year, and that Hiller is most likely the odd man out, given his age and weighty contract. Still, Hiller is the most steady of those three goalies for this year so it's still hard to see Hiller get moved, especially considering that Calgary can be a dark horse contender this year.

SP, that Calgary Sun article is from 9/16, out of date on the current situation. I own Ramo and Ortio and I expect Hiller will be traded/waived eventually, but it is taking longer to sort out than anticipated I guess

The Flames will trade one of Hiller/Ramo (whichever one they can trade), or else they will waive Hiller after a month (at longest) if they can't find a trade partner.

In terms of "who is the starter", well, the answer is nobody, because it will change from game to game, based on who is playing well and who is winning, just like last year.

Sending Ramo out on opening night makes it seem as though he at least has the upper hand. I imagine management would like him to take the job and run with it to make their decision easy. Showcase Hiller for a while and then deal him to the first team with a goalie injury.

Completely agree. I was shocked when I read about the Ramo start, but it seems to me they're looking to move Hiller.
