Lou and the future....

I'm looking into acqiring Loungo. He is a great short term option on an improving Panthers squad.

How many years do you think he has left in the tank and does Florida have any decent tending prospects on the way to replace Lou?

I don't see any future #1s in Florida plus Luongo's contract probably gives him the starter label until he retires.

Florida shipped out Markstrom who was supposed to be their future goalie forever, I don't see much in the pipeline.

I think Luongo will be the opening day starter for every season until he retires. Florida has an internal cap, and are moving into a "compete now" mode more than just developing youth. Luongo is 36 but I think his stand-up style will allow him to have a long steady career, with a slow decline, as opposed to guys who rely on reaction and instinct. I see 3 more pretty good seasons out of Luongo and then a decline in the last 2 (he has 5 years left on his current deal).

Luongo could play for 3-5 more years IMO would be the outlook I would expect.

I can see him playing another solid 3 seasons and then a year extra or 2. He's a guy like Brodeur that can play well up until his 40's and then some IMO.

While his play may decline, the Panthers' young players should make up for it so that he will not need to carry the load on his own.

I see him a lot like Brodeur in his style and so he can be effective into his 40s as well.
