Does he have a chance to get some NHL action this year? Scrivens and Talbot may both be above him on the Depth Chart. Does he have value in Keeper Leagues if one can stash him away for a year?

I think he gets the backup gig this year. Both Nilsson and Talbot were brought in by Chiarelli. Scrivens is not "his guy" so I'm thinking he could get traded or go on waivers without even getting a fair chance.

Nilsson certainly has a shot to see at least a few NHL starts this season.

Talbot is currently the defacto #1, that was the guy the Oilers wanted, Chairelli paid a decent price to get him, he's got a lot of hype from his time in New York and is likely the best goalie of the 3. In short, Talbot should be the starter after camp. Talbot has been a starter for stretches when Lundqvist was hurt but never for a full season, so even if he's the starter he could easily cap-out at 60 games played.

Scrivens and Nilsson will have a full on battle for the backup job in camp. Eric is right, the GM and Coach have no loyalty to Scrivens, but they don't have a reason to make Nilsson the backup either. If Nilsson can look impressive in camp and earn the backup job their is no reason the Oilers can't trade/ship Scrivens to the minors, with 1-year left on his deal I doubt the Oilers care if they lose him on a waivers grab.

The question is if Nilsson is any better than Scrivens. Nilsson's resume is really not impressive at either the NHL (23 gp) or AHL level. Last year he posted a 1.71 GAA last year in the KHL. He's still 25 so maybe he's worked out his kinks. If having a guy who may start 20 games on the Oilers is valuable in your league then he may be worth a roster stash.

Scrivens is a dead man walking as far as I'm concerned. I'd take Nilsson > Scrivens at this point.

I think Nilsson will be the backup, but I think he could be a sleeper for sure. Talbot is probably the starter, but I don't think he is a golden boy either (not yet at least). If he stumbles...watch out for Nilsson

Nilsson would let shots in over his shoulders as though he was a 5'8 G when he played for isles .

I think he's the most overhyped player heading into 15-16

He was outstanding in the KHL so I'm guessing he fixed at least part of that. Also, I disagree about him being overhyped. A lot of people (even on this forum) don't even know the Oilers signed him.
