Question Whom to pick as 2nd starter?

I have Andersen as a keeper. I want to grab a 2nd goalie in a league that counts W, SV%, GAA (3/11 categories; 3 games played minimum).

    Available in the draft are:
    Elliott
    Hiller
    Jones
    Ramo
    Lehtonen
    Niemi
    Talbot
    Lehner

Given that I'll try to secure all 82 of Anaheim's starts by picking up Khudobin/Gibson later, whom should I pick for my 2nd string? I'm leaning towards Elliott->Jones->Hiller.

    What do you think?

Let's see - Elliott is a sure split so definitely not him.
I also think Ramo is better than Hiller, so although most wouldn't call it as a 50-50 split - I think it will be. Or even Ramo takes it
Similarly, Lehtonen and Niemi will end up being splits
Jones and Stalock is another tough situation that could be split

I'd be trying to go with the non splits as best I can. Lehner isn't going to win many games. So that leaves you with on goalie. And that's the guy I would go with, crazy as it sounds. Talbot.

My fear with Elliott is that he gets surpassed by Jake Allen, and sees his minutes decrease. He will still but up decent numbers in the GAA and S%, but may not do so in the W category.
However, I don't know if my next choice, Talbot, will fare a whole lot better. Edmonton will improve but that will best seen in the Wins column (finally this year...maybe). Talbot's GAA and S% will still be taken down a notch.

Elliott is the best option for 2/3 categories, IMO.

And even with him splitting starts, he'll do almost as well as in the W categories as the guys who get more starts on bad teams ( and, yes, the Oils are still a bad team).

    It's Elliott for me.

Tough call. Elliot I guess. Talbot would be an interesting stash though...

I'd want Elliott as well. Talbot would be a close second only because he's the best option as a starter there on your list.

Even as a sharetime goalie (1A/1B) his numbers will be solid.

    Talbot for me.

    Elliott should play about 41gp, winning 60% = 24.6w
    Talbot should play about 60gp, winning 40% = 24w
So wins seem about same... and Elliott should give better GAA on a solid STL team limiting shots.
SV% will be same - if not better for Talbot!
[Worth noting, Cam Talbot's brief 57gp NHL career has a SV% of .931... Elliott is .912. Let's not forget that the 30yr old Elliott only hit his stride at age 27 in 2011-2012 with Talbot-esque numbers.]

But, the reason I like Talbot is the pure upside.
He has two straight seasons of fab GAA/SV%.
EDM has improved on D, adding Sekera and soon Nurse will be ready.
For all we know, they go out and spend big $$$ on a UFA D next summer.

Talbot has ridiculous upside if he pans out this year on EDM.
    "Keeper-worthy" upside.
Remember Corey Crawford, Jimmy Howard, Devan Dubnyk... all late-blooming out-of-nowhere goalies on good teams that became sure-keepers.

I'm talking top 10 goalie upside if EDM hits stride... I just can't pass on that in a keeper league.

I really like the position that Talbot finds himself in.
