Lightbulb Any of these FA's an upgrade over Pavelec? (REP)

    Hey guys,

My goalie situation is a little grim, Holtby and Pavelec. In a 12 Team H2H League with the follow cats: GS, W, L, SV%, SHO

    Here are the FA's

    - Howard (this is very tempting)
    - Mike Smith
    - Cam Ward
    - Lack
    - Lehner (another temping one)
    - Gibson
    - Ramo
    - Hutchinson

    Thanks!

Do you have anyone else you could drop?

I'd be tempted to pick up Howard to at least see how the starts play out early. I have a hard time believing that they will just sit him given his contract.

I don't have much faith in Pavelec, but of of that group he's the best bet for starts so I wouldn't drop him for one of them, only if you hvae a bench player you can afford to cut loose.

Frankly I think Pavs is probably your best option this year out of the bunch, but its definitely up for debate.

You could go carry 3 goalies, Drop your worst skater and get the handcuff with Hutchinson or grab Howard, but frankly I think your fine to start the season with Pavs, just monitor his situation closely.

Yeah, I dont have any skaters I really wanna cut loose, the only ones would be Pastrnak or Kuznetsov but I am having a hard time dropping those guys as I they are good breakout candidates plus the Backstrom injury that could let Kuz play with Ovi.

In real life I would say all but Smith and Hutch. But for Fantasy:
    GS, W, L, SV%, SHO
    - Howard - I would say go with him, still making big $. He should play about as much as Pavs with more consistency and Detroit doesn't play in the Central.
    - Mike Smith - Lol no
    - Cam Ward - no
    - Lack - No, but only because Carolina is awful. He is still good though just won't win, or get SO.
    - Lehner - No, Buffalo will still be bad
    - Gibson - AHL bound
    - Ramo - Possibly, but that Calgary situation is weird, they have 3 one-way deals so he may be moved
    - Hutchinson - Pavs would be better....
Do not know if you are planning to win this year or not, but perhaps grab Hellybuck? He should supplant both Pavs and Hutch this year (unlikely) or next 1-3 season (more likely)

+1 to this. Of the Gs you list, only Pavelec and Howard have starting jobs on strong teams to start the season but Howard is no better than a 1A to Mrazek's 1B. Howard is something of a wild card too. He has the salary of a starter but was deemed unworthy to start the playoffs. By a coach who's no longer with DET. Can we use Howard's narrative from last year to inform this season? Not really. All we know is that he's now 31 and has an albatross contract that likely won't be tradeable.

So, despite the disgusting taste in my mouth for saying it, I'd recommend keeping Pavelec.

Just keep a quick trigger finger on the Pavelec Dump button.
