Finished first in my league last year, so i have the last pick in every round. With my team in sig I'm trying to acquire the first overall pick and talking to the owner. Do you guys think it is too much (or too little)... ive offered me getting first overall for Giroux and Callahan, but doesnt seem to be enough. any thoughts and what I should sweeten the deal with or is this asking price already enough?

The guy who has first overall in our league was offered Giroux + (or so the rumour goes), and turned it down. Nobody blames him, especially because he has a young team, and McDavid will be very good for a very long time.

I'd be asking for Giroux + Johnson to consider moving #1. Even then I probably don't. And that would be too much to give up for you.

Only thing I could see is if you offer giroux and multiple picks....but you're then pretty well canning this season and probably next season

Did you ask him to counter so you can get an idea of what he's looking for? Or you could always just ask him what he wants.

Agreed. It always depends on the owner with the McDavid pick. Most people rank him top 5 at worst but that doesn't mean everyone sees it that way. Giroux was a good player to throw out there as a feeler considering he is a proven star. What about Giroux + Ekblad? In any event, chances are he'll be keeping the pick.

re: Getting McDavid - this is just a case where if a GM wants him he says to PM the #1 pick owner and say "What do you want for the #1 pick? Name your price."
You'll know from the reply whether you have a shot.
Then... that's the time to start a thread that says "Too much for McDavid?"

I agree with Axeman that I would ask him to counter, or just straight up ask him what he's looking for. Than at least you'd have a starting point and you can decide if it's something you'd be willing to pursue or not

There are going to be a million owners regretting their trades for McDavid this season. You can probably get Eichel for half as much.

Couldn't get a counter offer out of him, most I got was "I can move him at the right price"...went back a forth a bit last offer was Giroux, Oshie, and my first round pick. Pretty much all but turned it down. Not sure if ill be able to get it done. Thanks for the input tho, guess I got a little ahead of myself. But there is always hope.

So far I've offered Kessel, my 1st (7th overall) and one of Backes, Giordano or Varlamov, then offered Kessel and my next 2 firsts and the 1st overall owner wouldn't even have a discussion. I then said what if Ovechkin were on the table for McDavid and he's still not willing to do that deal...

I would simply ask him to pick any two off your team and you will consider it, see his response and then decide if its worth it. Depends how desperate you are to land McDavid.

Personally I wouldn't pay a huge price for a guy never having played yet when the cost is one of the best fantasy players in Giroux + more significant parts off a contending team. I am always in win now mode when I get a contending team.

I was offered Malkin and turned it down. I made a thread before doing so and about 95% of responses agreed with keeping McDavid. So it's basically impossible to get McDavid right now. Wait for a slump early on and put the offer out again.

Depends on your league a lot.

I paid Kopitar, Josi, and Yak to get McDavid. Everyone here said that was a steal.

However, I've gotten a lot of offers for McDavid since, and all of them have been less than what I paid; with the argument being that I overpaid by a mile and apparently I'll never get close to that value back, so I'd might as well recoup what I can lol.

I guess if McDavid doesn't pan out as soon as this season, then I'm a total fool

Wow, really? Reminds me of a guy in my league when I told him we plan to do a lottery for our draft because of McDavid and he said "hahaha is that the guy who couldn't do pullups at the combine?"
