    Hello All,

I am glad to be able to play in this league. I figured some more chatter will start as we get near draft day.

    Until then,

You and me both. I don't buy the whole theory that the middle is better because you don't miss out on runs. Being close to the turn gives so much more control of draft tempo. I much rather have first dibs on the elites with a top 3 pick or get value out of high end forwards that slide to the end of the first round/are available at the beginning of round two. Guess it will be all the more impressive when one of us wins ;-)

    Nice draft guys!
LIVE draft except for Team #2 on Auto & kluu missed his first 4-5 rounds.

I thought habs7079 probably drafted the nicest team... but it was very well balanced overall.

Decided to post my projections just for the interest sake to see how good (or bad probably) they are. There's the added benefit of not having my own team in the league which creates significant bias towards my own team. I assumed there's a dummy commish team which would finish dead last in every category so every team gets 9 extra points. You can clearly see what typically happens with auto-drafting teams (Humberside H) getting fairly strong skater lineup and absolutely terrible goaltending to go with it.

Thanks for the feedback Temek! This was the first time I have drafted deeper than my 10 team, 3C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 4 D, 5 BN roster. I have also never played with SV or this few goalie categories. I messed up and forgot we roster 6D per team! Ouch I am very thin On D. I had a few rounds where I lost 3-4 people I had ready to pick!!

Let's get this started guys. I can't wait until October.

Not sure which side of the Reach Factor you want to be on. But Habs7079 leading the way in that ranking and Temek's. Early favourite.

I look forward to it guys, fun draft. Right in the middle where I expected.

    Team: Djaskin Unchained
    Owner: Habs7079
C: Backstrom, Monahan, Pirri, Fisher, Dano
LW: Zetterberg, Simmonds, Schwartz, Kreider, Pouliot
RW: Gallagher, Pominville, Zuccarello, Brouwer, Jaskin
D: Karlsson, Barrie, Markov, Stralman, Savard, Orpik
    G: Rask, Andersen, Lehtonen, Hutchinson

    1. (6) Henrik Karlsson (Ott – D): Ovechkin, Crosby, Seguin, Tavares, and Giroux topped my rankings and I was hoping someone might reach for Price and leave one of those guys for me at the 6th pick. I had Stamkos penciled in for a bit of a bounce-back, but still tiered below my top 5, along with Malkin and Kessel. With the elite forwards off the table, I went with the next best skater in my rankings with Karlsson.

    2. (23) Tuukka Rask (Bos - G): My plan going into the draft was to get a goalie in the second round if anyone in my top tier was left, otherwise wait for value later in the draft. Rask was the last goalie in tier 1 remaining by the time my pick came up, so I stuck to the game plan.

    3. (34) Nicklas Backstrom (Was - C): It came down to a choice between Nicklas Backstrom and Ryan Johansen for me. Johansen has a decisive edge in G and SOG plus has point per game upside, but Backstrom’s floor has been a point per game production and it is almost impossible to get 30+ PPP from a skater after the first two rounds.

    4. (51) Henrik Zetterberg (Det - C,LW): He is about as reliable as they come, with a floor of ~70 pts and point per game upside. I had Zetterberg in my top 30. Thought he was a steal here.

    5. (62) Frederik Andersen (Anh - G): I was planning to wait for the Calgary tandem, but when Andersen fell to the 5th round, I couldn’t pass him up. He was the last of my tier 2 goalies available, the top-end forwards were gone, and there were multiple defensemen I was happy taking as my D2.

    6. (79) Tyson Barrie (Col - D): With Carlson and Faulk off the board ahead of me, I knew I had to pick my second D or I’d miss out on the last of the stud blueliners. I don’t like the weak peripherals, but Barrie has 55+ point upside and I’m betting that the Avalanche PP isn’t nearly as abysmal as it looked last season.

    7. (90) Wayne Simmonds (Phi - LW,RW): I’m a big fan of Wayne Simmonds, both on ice and in fantasy leagues. Not easy finding a winger that not only will reliably flirt with 30 G, 30 A, but can also post a steady 20-25 PPP, 200 SOG, and 150 hits.

    8. (107) Jaden Schwartz (StL - LW): This arguably was a reach, given Schwartz may wind up playing a good portion of the season away from Tarasenko. I still think his floor is 20-25 G, 55-60 pt, with an upside for 30 G, 70+ pt if he can stick with Tarasenko and increase his PP scoring. I liked his upside a little more than Tatar or Palat and felt his floor was safer than Gaudreau. Could easily see all three of those guys ending up as much better values than Schwartz, but I’m holding out hope that he can at least repeat last season’s stats.

    9. (118) Sean Monahan (Cgy - C): I wrestled with this pick quite a bit as I didn’t want to completely miss out on the tier of RW eligible players that for me consisted of Okposo, Hornqvist, Carter, Tatar, Nyqvist, Vrbata, and Hossa. Thornton, Spezza, and Stepan were still available, but I already had Backstrom and needed goal scoring more than A or PPP. Monahan was the last C on the table with the ability to put up 30+ G, has 70+ pt upside, and is reasonably safe for at least 60 points.

    10. (135) Chris Kreider (NYR - LW): The Monahan pick meant I completely missed out on that tier of RW’s, like I feared. The next group of RW I was targeting was likely to fall a bit, so I decided to take the best LW available. Like many, I think Kreider is poised to breakout in a big way with St. Louis out of the picture. I projected him for 25 G, 56 pt, but don’t see why 30 G, 60+ pt is out of the question if he is productive on the PP. Even if he only gets 20 G, 50 pts, he still provides solid peripherals at a shallow position.

    11. (146) Andrei Markov (Mon - D): Like the Barrie pick, I’m not too thrilled about the SOG and hits with Markov, but you can’t argue with his ability to rack up PPP, strong +/-, and 40-50 pts. I needed a D3, and PPP are always a priority for me on draft day.

    12. (163) Brendan Gallagher (Mon - RW): I was thin at RW by this point and was lacking in the SOG department. Gallagher shoots the puck like a top 25 scorer, but has yet to produce like one. It’s that magic fourth year for him and I think this is finally the season where the Montreal forward corps ups their offensive game.

    13. (174) Jason Pominville (Min - RW): I really wanted to draft Zibanejad and needed hits, but plenty of heavy hitters were still hanging around. There weren’t many players left that had 220-250 SOG in them, let alone a safe 55-60 points. His shooting percentage was way off his career average last season, so I don’t see any reason for him to get fewer than the 54 pts he did nor any reason he won’t be back in the 25-30 G range.

    14. (191) Troy Brouwer (StL - RW): Zibanejad was gone by the time my turn came up again and I still desperately needed hits. Brouwer provides a ton of hits and nice PPP for a depth winger without hurting much at any other category, unlike most other heavy hitters.

    15. (202) Mats Zuccarello (NYR - LW,RW): Any time the words “brain” and “contusion” are used in the same sentence, it’s scary, let alone when it means you temporarily lose your ability to speak. It sounds like the worst of it is over and Zuccarello can go back to offering 50-60 pts and nice all around peripherals. The dual-winger eligibility is an added bonus.

    16. (219) Anton Stralman (TB - D): Stralman found himself in a prime situation when he became the de facto #1 D in TB while Hedman was out this past season. Stralman won’t see as much PP1 time as he did last year, but he is the best puck mover they have after Hedman and will get his fair share of even strength scoring, skating with one of the best groups of forwards in the league. He is a safe 35-40 points in my book, with strong +/- and respectable SOG, hits, PPP for a depth D.

    17. (230) David Savard (Cls - D): I wanted to make sure I had 5 D I felt good about and like many I'm a fan of Savard going into this season. Johnson is the main offensive weapon on the blueline for the Jackets and Ryan Murray will get his looks, but Savard managed 36 points with less than 40% PP TOI. Even if he remains a secondary PP option, he offers 200 hits and 35 pts. That's a D5 I can be happy with.

    18. (247) Brandon Pirri (Fla - C,LW,RW): At this stage in the draft, it isn’t easy to find players who have 30 G upside and put up 3 SOG/game last year. It may be a riskier pick, but I think Pirri did enough to convince the Panthers that he is a full-season top 6 player. The multi-position flexibility makes him an even nicer depth option.

    19. (258) Mike Fisher (Nsh - C): I needed more hits, but hate taking one-dimensional forwards that bring tons of hits and kill you at every other stat (especially with max GP). Mike Fisher always provides sneaky roto value and can pace 20-25 G, 50-55 pt, 10-15 PPP, 160 SOG, 140 hits.

    20. (275) Kari Lehtonen (Dal - G): I was aiming to take Michael Hutchinson around here, but was shocked to see Lehtonen still hanging around. Couldn’t let him dangle any longer and was happy to snatch him up as my third goalie.

    21. (286) Marko Dano (Chi - C): With Versteeg out of the way, another barrier is gone for Dano making the top 6. His SOG and hit rate alone were enough for me to take a flyer on him late in the draft and his path to sleeper success is looking as open as it could get.

    22. (303) Brooks Orpik (Was - D): I was all ready to draft Despres, when kofax snatched him away just before my turn. I still needed hits badly and while the PPP and SOG are pretty much non-existent for Orpik, the gap between him and a replacement level D in those cats is outweighed by the huge edge he provides in hits.

    23. (314) Dmitrij Jaskin (StL - RW): Similar to Dano, Jaskin offers excellent SOG and hit per game and would be a quality roto player if he can get to the 40 pt range. He also acts as a handcuff for Brouwer in case the veteran gets passed in the depth chart by Jaskin.

    24. (331) Michael Hutchinson (Wpg - G): I was aiming to grab Hutchinson with my round 20 pick. Was even happier to take him with my round 24 pick. Pavelec is as vulnerable as they come for starting goalies and Hutchinson already showed us he has what it takes to unseat him.

    25. (342) Benoit Pouliot (Edm - LW): Pouliot put up a 27 G, 48 point pace last year and can also provide decent hits. He’s still a top 6 player and I hear there is this really good rookie joining the Oilers this season.

Updated "Reach Factor" based on all four Dobber league drafts:
[Most Negative Value means a lot of players taken well before their ADP.]

    +11.4 habs7079
    +6.7 Humberside Huskies
    +4.7 TBD
    +3.8 Password is Taco
    +3.7 Canuckleheads

    ...

    -1.7 Phil The Thrill
    -2.4 StaveOffElimination
    -6.6 Laendarian
    ...
    -16.6 StanLee's_CupofGlory
    -23.4 kluu
    -31.5 Dead Things
    -31.8 Leaf Nation

Interpretation in conjunction with Temek's Projected Standings:
High in Temek Standings & High in Reach Value - suggests team value-drafted players wrongfully passed over by other GMs
High in Temek Standings & Low in Reach Value - suggests team is reaching for the RIGHT players
Low in Temek Standings & High in Reach Value - suggests team took bad players rightfully passed over by other GMs (ex. JVR)
Low in Temek Standings & Low in Reach Value - suggests team is reaching for the WRONG players
