    Default Mark Visentin ...

What happened with Mark Visentin? After missing much of last year the Coyotes opted not to even qualify their former first rounder. For a rebuilding organization that looks to me to lack prospect goalie depth, it makes little sense to just drop him for nothing. So what's the story?

He has now gone on to sign to play with Chicago's AHL affiliate. Is this now a much better situation for him to develop? Is the upside still there?

    Good article on Visentin here...

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blac...-success-story

He missed all of last season with an ankle injury, and his AHL numbers the previous season (3.25 GAA, .902 SV%) weren't good. I'd say he's at least a couple years away, if he gets to the NHL at all. But reading this article, it seems as though Chicago is better at developing goalies than Arizona is.

On a side note, I wonder how much that third-period meltdown against Russia in the World Junior gold medal game affected his psyche.

    Thanks for the link.

It still seems early to give up on a young goaltender for Arizona. He seems optimistic about a new start by the sounds of that article, so that's a positive. Hopefully he can turn it around in a couple years.

was shocked he was just let go by AZ like that...goalies take time. I guess they really weren't impressed.

Also strange to see Scott Glennie not get qualified by Dallas and still being a FA...wow is this guy ever becoming a massive bust.

They probably figure they can get more out of the guys they signed as free agents. Sticking with prospects is one thing but there's guys out there with a ton of talent and upside as well.
