    Default Samsonov vs. Hellebucyk

    Hi guys (and gals),

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm looking for opinions for my keeper league hockey pool. I am looking to draft a goalie (I can be patient with development if need be).

In our league, save percentage is king and is the primary stat we use.

Who would you draft if you had a choice, Ilya Samsonov (Washington) or Connor Hellebucyk (Winnipeg)?

    Looking forward to the responses,

    Thanks.

Hellebucyk might be the best prospect goalie to own, period.

    Welcome to the boards, bapfan.

Hellebuyck is a great goaltending prospect, and the road to the starter's role in the Peg is much clearer than Samsonov's in Washington. Hellebuyck may even be the full time backup by season's end, while Samsonov is slated to return to Russia for a few more seasons (see Kuznetsov, Evgeni). Hellebuyck would be my choice by a country mile.

I again would go Hellebucyk. He is a much more developed prospected. In the case of potentials being close, I will take the one farther along the development path every time.

Hellebuyck is a great prospect. I'd take him over Samsonov for now, especially since Holtby has a grapple-hold on Washington's starting job for at least the next 5 years.

Welcome, Hellebuyck by a mile. He should have a lock down on the job in the Peg by next year while Samsonov is too far out to predict.

Hellebuyck.... Drafting an 18 year old goalie is a huge risk. It will be 4 years minimum before they sniff the NHL, and so much can happen in that time.

Hellebuyck is 22 and on the verge of cracking the Jets lineup. He's a very good goalie to boot, haha.

Hellebucyk. In my keeper dynasty leagues he is being treated in a way how bernier was in LA. It's the best comparison that I could come up with off the top of my head. Almost , if not untouchable. We all know goalies are a bit of a crap shoot, but vs ilya, I'd say it's hellebucyk for sure for the reasons already stated above me, along with the trade value hellebucyk carries

A manager in my pool drafted Samsonov 12th overall and offered him to me right after the draft for my Hellebuyck...

I laughed and sent back a simple ''NO.''

    First off, welcome.

Its easy to say Hellebuyck today because most are familiar with him and his work.

Few truly know much about Samsonov so it's hard for many to recommend what they don't know.

I'll also say Hellebucyk because he's what I know but if the predraft reports about Samsonov are accurate, I could see him being the better asset.
