Prior to Deadline Keeper thoughts

With our trade deadline looming, I want to figure out who my keepers are, but don’t really know. First off here’s the league details, with my point total in brackets (10 is max, 1 is lowest):

ROTO, 10-team, Keep 7, R(9), HR(8), RBI(9), SB(10), AVG(4), OPS(6), W(7), ERA(9), WHIP(5), K/9(7), QS(8), Sv+H(7). I have like a 50SB lead on second. I had Hamilton and traded him for Upton.

C: McCann (1B,C) 1B: Rizzo 2B: Schoop (2B,3B) 3B: Donaldson SS: Correa IF: Altuve OF(5): Brantley, Braun, Tomas(3B,OF), Upton,Pillar Util: Grichuk DL: Dee Gordon (2B), Aoki (OF)

SP(3): Hamels, Wacha, Harvey RP(2): Papelbon, Tolleson P(4): Mejia(rp), Allen(rp), Chapman(rp), Rodriguez(rp) BN: Arrieta(SP), Gray (SP), C.Martinez(SP,RP) NA: Soriano

So I know of Rizzo, Donaldson, and Correa are prolly locks as keepers, but I don’t know my next 4. I’m gonna guess my keepers are bolded. But I’m unsure of what to do with Harvey. There’s word of mouth we are going to switch back to H2H next yr (2014 we were H2H) so I think keeping 2 SP in H2H is a better plan.

You have a very strong set of position players there. I would personally have a hard time letting go of Gordon and Brantley, especially for pitchers, who seem to fluctuate a lot more from year to year. The first thing to consider is how easy you think it would be to redraft talent in the field vs. on the mound, and the second is whether you can make a trade involving a few players you aren't keeping in order to upgrade a keeper slot. Possibly shipping out Chapman, Harvey, Gordon, etc.

Well, due to an Altuve trade I have a much more difficult decision now.

I do not know who to keep lol. I’m going for the win this yr, so I guess I can’t really trade away anyone. I’m looking to trade away Gomez I guess.

That did just make things even more interesting. The four position players that you had as keepers initially I don't think should be considered droppable. That leaves it at Brantley, Gardiner, Gomez, Gordon, Arrieta, Gray, Harvey, Chapman for three spots. Chapman may not be on the best team, but to me he's the best fantasy reliever in the game by far. I would probably split it with Chapman, a starter (in order: Gray, Harvey, Arrieta) and another fielder (Gardiner, Gomez, Gordon, Brantley).

I would keep the players in bold above. Pitching appears to be pretty valuable in this league based on the stats and Harvey will return to dominance another year removed from Tommy John. The hitters in bold cannot be dropped.

In this league when it was H2H, it was very valuable to load on pitchers. One guy destroyed the regular season when this league was H2H, but ultimately lost in the 1^st round lol. This yr with ROTO, it seems like if you have what I have you’ll do well. 4 good SP, the rest RPs.

If I don’t win this yr I’ll be so upset. Since the Altuve trade I’ve gone from 90pts overall (2^nd in the standings) to 83pts and (3^rd in the standings). Not happy right now.
