    Have a couple questions.

    1. Are goalie points (assists more than likely) counted? Can't seem to find it anywhere at the moment. Hope they are.

    2. And I know this has been argued in past years, but I feel with the weighted categories structured extremely well in this league that Shorthanded points could be added in as a slight boost and be represented accordingly, since it is an element of the game that isn't being included at all. With powerplay points coming in at .5, SHP could be at a .25 weight, or less. I'm just thinking about covering all hockey aspects as best as we can.

    Thoughts?

Just for you, I added goalie assists (A = 1.0pt, same as skater).
(I really don't care... but I decided we can have some fun with this one. It's something we might actually see during 3-on-3 OTs!!!)

    SHP - oh man.
You know how some people really, really hate +/-???
I hate one thing in fantasy hockey: SHP!
Unh-unh. Not happening. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

As a side discussion: here's why:

The true value in a penalty killer is how many kills they can successfully do.
I always shake it out like this:
JonnyPicker. On for 100 penalty kills. Successfully kills 80. Gives up 20 PP against, score 3 goals for his team though, and racks up 3 SHP.
JimmyTwoway. On for 100 penalty kills. Successfully kills 90. Gives up 10 PP against. Doesn't score any goals for.

    Here's what fantasy hockey captures:
    JonnyPicker will be +3 with 3 SHP. (He's also a -17 on the PK. 3 GF - 20GA = -17.)
    JimmyTwoWay will be +0 with 0 SHP. (He's also -10 on the PK. 0 GF - 10GA = -10.)
Relative goal differential rules in hockey. More goals for... than goals against... is what wins a game, right?

JimmyTwoWay is the better NHL penalty killer... so I refuse to reward JonnyPicker here!! (sorry!)

haha, I knew it was a touchy subject, but it had to be brought up right .
Your point makes alot of sense, plus PKer's are well represented in FOW and blocks anyways.

    My final suggestion:

    The Schedule

With Fantrax we can actually play more than one team per week, so we can actually try and mimic an 82 game schedule.

What are your guys thoughts on playing 3 opponents per week? So instead of a 1-0 = 2pts per week, you could go 3-0 = 6 pts or 2-1 = 4 pts etc etc??

    The good in this format:

    1. Mimic an NHL schedule and an NHL type final Win/Loss total. Not that lousy 12 win NFL look.
    2. You run into a hot team in the week, you still have a chance at beating 2 other teams if you are actually having a great week too.
    3. Really tames down the luck factor, the best team at the end of the season really was the best team, cannot blame a bad matchup per week.

    Thoughts?

I don't think it's too dramatic of a point hike.

    2. Draft Window / Schedule.
So far - I think I've only seen 1 or 2 people say they are "after work" drafters. This ain't too bad. And most are flexible "all day".
Based on this... I'm going to scrap the "draft window" idea and we'll just do it the traditional way - send PMs/emails when it's somebody's turn.
We'll give everybody a 6hr window to draft when it's their turn. (midnight-8am EST not part of time limit)
The "after work" crew will have to submit a proxy (player list) to somebody if they are due to draft in the morning/day. (Sorry)
Once we know our draft order, we'll have everybody commit to sending both a PM/email to the next person after them.

    3. Goalies / Drafting / Keepers
I'm not going to set any limitations on goalie drafting or rostering limits.
Hoarding is a possibility... but last year's back-ups typically scored about 10-30 fantasy points. If any GMs want to draft & sit on these guys when 40-60pt skaters are on the table... that'll be their strategy.
It will be a requirement that teams have an active 12F/6D at all times on their roster - no injured guys, no AHL/junior guys. This is simply to avoid tanking strategies.

    4. Keepers
There WILL be a limit on the number of PRO goalies you can keep every year. And that will be TWO.
Teams will be permitted to keep up to 25 players, due July 15 each year. We'll call it the 20-5 rule.
MAX 20 PRO (of 25) may be kept.
MIN 5 JR (of 10) must be kept.
And your PRO team keepers may only keep two (2) goalies.
This way, there will be a maximum of 48 NHL goalies "kept"... which allows enough back-ups in the replacement draft each year.
It may also promote some trading of goalies to teams without them.

**Some teams may elect to roll 3-4 goalies through their 1 starter spot, but note that you can only keep 2G on your PRO team.**

    Discussion Item:
    PRO-MINORS "Flexing"
JR Skaters are minors eligible for gp < 100.
JR Goalies are minors eligible for gp < 40.

When you guys have done this, can you:

    i) shift a JR player up & down (at will) to your PRO team? Or is it
ii) "once he's up to PRO - he must stay there"?

    What do you guys prefer?
If we have a 6 hr window that should be ok for me on the tree days in Aug. I will be travelling. No flight I've booked is longer than 3 hrs.

I'm also in favour of moving our JR players up and down as required.

I like this idea. I've never been in a league that simulates a 82 game season and would be interested to how it would play out.

fair enough. Care to share why? Like to hear the negatives to this component, since it is an aspect that does bring us closer to mimicking the NHL.

Seems to me match ups that are one or two days long would be even more prone to random chance/luck. Especially with large fluctuations in the number of players each team has active during that small time frame.

Thats not the way this setting works. Matchups continue to be a week long, the only difference is your total for the week isnt just against one opponent at the end. It would be against 4.

    1 week ex:
bees 96 points - hawks 80 pts - bees win
bees 96 points - bulls 99 pts - bulls win
bees 96 points - beasts 55 pts - bees win
bees 96 points - jokers 102 pts - jokers win

The bees totaled 96 pts during the week, and the totals against the scheduled opponents the bees went 2-2 that week = 4 pts.

There is absolutely no difference in week to week maintenance of a team, the only difference is the amount of win/losses in the standings since technically you are playing more teams, over the course of the season.

but then how do you determine what the best lineup to set for your team is? instead of trying to beat your opponent you are now trying to get the best possible score combined from your opponents. for example starting your goalie would give you a guarenteed win for the save category vs Opponent 1, but you can't do that now because you are worried you will risk losing GAA and GA vs Opponent 2.
