I have to say, that is incredibly complicated on the surface, but with how you explained it makes it so very simple. Well done & thanks!

Well written P7! As GoNucks said, seems complicated on the surface but you broke it down into plain language that is easily understood.

May I suggest you enter the above description (as written) into our league rules of fair play in a stand alone section?

One final note - as we are half way through our first year, I have to say this league is, hands down, the best I've ever been in. There are not enough words to thank Penguin who organized the league and his co-commissioners that keep our league running smoothly, day in and day out. But a league is only as strong as it's GM's - my guess is the WHL is right up there with the best leagues anywhere and our GM's are the most classy and dedicated bunch you could find.

I agree with the others, well written summary. Also, how in the hell are we halfway through the 1st season...I guess time flies when you're in the middle of a losing skid...

Definitely the most competitive league I've been part of.

Damn... now I have to figure out how to position-match the Edmonton Oilers to give myself the best chance of winning the lottery!

Weird stat. In the first few weeks of the season, I was middle of the pack in points for, but had the second most points against. I think I was 3-8 or something. The last few weeks, I've been scoring less, but so have my opponents. I've gone something like 5-1, and that one loss was the all-star shortened week last week when I lost by 0.08 points.

It's been a pretty weird season for my squad, that's for sure. At one point I think I had all my injury spots used, plus another two injured players that had to sit on my bench.

I'd be in the playoffs if I had just predicted Lack would shutout the Blackhawks. Because that makes sense.

    My suggestion re: Whalers

I think it would be best to adjust lineups retroactively from the time he was absent, then set future lineups weekly (set for all days in the week at the beginning of the week, not managed daily). In both cases the important thing is that active players are in the lineup. This is the most fair to the teams that have already played the Whalers, and will best ensure that this situation doesn't effect the standings in a way that would be unfair to any GM.

    Please post in WHL forum.
(btw. Retroactive? I'm not sure that's a good idea. 1. How do we hand select who should have been in his line-up? 2. This could quite possibly change the result of past match-ups!!! (in which case an opposing GM might argue, fairly so, that he could've managed his team differently if a match was tighter.))

btw - I'll make a generic post here.
As it happened in one of my other leagues, it's an issue that surely other GMs/commissioners have also had to deal with before.

Alright, fair enough. Perhaps I didn't think the retroactive thing through.

Looking forward to seeing what opinions come up in the generic post. Thanks for your attention to detail and dedication to making this league fair and fun Pengwin7, it really makes a big difference.

    Thanks to you too.
I'm really happy that so many WHL GMs bring up their issues when they see them.
Right or wrong... putting a discussion into motion helps us improve the league by encouraging other GMs to share their best thoughts.

I thought it would be neat to circle back after the year is over to see how the actual final standings compare to the projected standings. Keep in mind trades and other player movement will have a bearing on the final outcome of our league standings.

One of the issues FHG hasn't resolved yet is the majority of the 2015 draft class are not in their data base yet so they can't be saved to each of our teams. But McDavid, Eichel & Hanifin ARE in their data base so they are included in the projections for the teams that drafted them. In all cases, the players not included are on the various farm teams so their omission should not impact the projections.

So, using the team roster page from Fantrax as of Sept 7/15, the final standing projection for the WHL is:

    1.Halifax Krackens: 1333 fantasy points
    2.Markham Waxers: 1302 fantasy points
    3.Wheeling Nailers: 1291 fantasy points
    4.Saanichton Cougars: 1275 fantasy points
5.Victoria Dead Hookers: 1259 fantasy points
6.Highland Scotch Hounds: 1249 fantasy points
7.Fort Francis Muskies: 1226 fantasy points
8.Edmonton Road Runners: 1223 fantasy points
    9.Windsor Spitfires: 1218 fantasy points
    10.CSKA Moscow: 1180 fantasy points
    11.Braham Pietasters: 1156 fantasy points

    ^Thanks for posting!
Falls River & Amsterdam both greatly exceeded projections!
And the Krakens were as good as believed, finishing with highest regular season points!

Excited for our first league playoffs:

    Upper Tier:
    1. Spitfires (Pengwin7) vs. 8. Griffins (brakli)
    2. Finest (MCMackerel) vs. 7. Ducks (evans334)
    3. Waxers (praba) vs. 6. Generals (Bobby4Ever) *I think this is gonna be a throwdown high-scoring match!!!
    4. Krakens (Gretzky's Mullet) vs. 5. CSKA (rainydrinkwater)

    Middle Tier:
    9. Pietasters (glorybe23) vs. 16. Dead Hookers (Loch). *Best team nickname showdown. Pie-tasters might get infected in this one!
    10. Muskies (Burgundy) vs. 15. Nailers (Brosive)
    11. Sasquatch (Pit Bulls) vs. 14. Road Runners (Lemmy)
    12. Red Lights (rataylor22) vs. 13. Barons (gopack26)

    Bottom Tier:
    17. Scotch Hounds (seadawg) vs. 24. Moose (GinFizz)
    18. Voodoo (GoNucks) vs. 23. Storm (havanablast21)
    19. Cougars (InForAPenny) vs. 22. Whalers (Savvy1982)
    20. Canadiens (newfcollins) vs. 21. Nationals (VintageVibe)

In the WHL, anybody that finishes runner-up in their bracket will jump one spot for their lottery position...
Anybody winning their bracket will jump two spots for their lottery position.
Nothing like an extra couple % at landing Mr.Matthews!!

This could be a result of making solid trades, astute FA pickups and overall good team management. Most teams now don't look anything like they did following our draft
