    Default Trading for Barrie

Barrie's had a great year last year, but its the only time he's topped 40 pts. HOWEVER, he's canadian, I have MacKinnon, i really want him on my team, IF he can at least keep up a 45 pt pace

    I floated
    Kapanen
    Trouba
    7th overall

    for

    Barrie
    E. Johnson
    21st overall

The team I'm trading with is rebuilding, and I'm contending.

    My team is FER
    His is ARC

Who wins this trade? League in sig.
If it's really unfair, for which side? and how would you modify it to make it more fair?

Its worth floating I guess. The problem as i see it here- is that the assets you are trying to move are at an all time low. Its smart asset management if you can make it work- but if I were the other owner- this would have very little appeal. Heres why:

Kapanen- Just got traded to the maple leafs. He went from possibly auditioning on Crosby's wing- to an absolute trainwreck that is most likely in the 4-6 year range away from resembling anything halfway consistent. This would be bad for any established player but imho is far worse for a prospect- because there is never an absolute guarantee with them anyways (outside of the very top picks). Im unfortunately a KK owner and this was brutal news as an owner. I felt like I had a medium risk/sky high reward chip days ago and now I have just another medium risk/medium reward piece that ultimately is not very interesting.

Trouba- As a jets fan- I love this guy. Last season really started to put the fear in me as a fantasy owner though. Im legitimately worried about his offensive upside now. So much so that I dropped him from my keeper team- something I said Id never do (I had an excrutiating decision earlier in the season and actually dropped Rielly to keep Troub). They seem to be grooming him as a defensive specialist- and it was never so evident as the distribution of pp time and key offfensive minutes afetr the Myers trade- Tyler got the lions share by a healthy margin. Yes thres still hope- but again his percieved value is just very low right now.

Im not huge on the COL guys (Barrie really does not shoot enough for my liking)- but both of them had above average seasons on a team that didnt fare very well.

So yea- float away- I think if it happens you win in the short term (and the way things look today- most likely the long term aas well)- Im just saying why id be skepical. Its not an insulting offer though- its worth putting out there. Good luck!

Oh my ... at first blush I think you're getting fleeced pretty hard on this one. Sorry about that. I like Trouba a good deal more than Barrie in terms of potential going forward, I don't think they will be too far apart this coming season and the next, and after that point (or even before) Trouba should be head-and-shoulders above Barrie in my eyes. I would also much prefer Kapanen to EJ. Kapanen is a very good prospect, indicated by the fact that he was a main piece in the Phil Kessel return -- also including a likely 1st round pick. I don't agree with the above that Kapanen is 4-6 years away with medium-reward potential; in fact, I think Kapanen is very close to NHL-ready, and he is probably medium-risk / high-reward type of player. He's likely going to spend a full season in the AHL, with some cups of coffee here and there, but I think 2016-17 KK will be a Leaf. I don't think the trade from Pittsburgh is nearly as bad as some Kapanen owners are saying right now. For that reason, it's a great time to acquire him, not deal him.

As for the difference between the 7th pick and the 21st pick, that much should be clear. If we're talking 2015 players, you're looking at a Barzal, Zacha, Provorov type of player at 7th overall, whereas at 21 you're looking at the Jeremy Braccos and Daniel Sprongs of the world. I don't think this will be a good trade for you. Good luck in the future, homie.

    Cheers.

I love Tyson Barrie. I also really like Jacob Trouba. But Barrie should be "the guy" for the Avs for the foreseeable future and once MacKinnon hits his stride they will put up some nice numbers, which Barrie will benefit from. I think you can pencil in Barrie for 40-45 without breaking a sweat - his realistic upside is 50+ with a career year of 58 points down the line.

    E. Johnson is what he is - a talented defenseman who can put up good numbers in stretches but always get hurt.

Kapanen is a good prospect but his value dipped quite a bit in my book since the trade. A staring gig next to Crosby or Malkin makes him an enticing prospect - not so much on the Leafs. You can afford to lose him.

The 7th overall for the 21st stings here - I wish you could do something about that. To be honest, I'd rather you tried...

I don't see this as being a bad offer at all, in fact I'd call it a very solid offer!

Let me start by saying, I'm not sure I understand the comment about how he's only topped 40 points once. He's 23 years old and last year was his 1st full season in the NHL, furthermore he was on pace to break 40 points in the previous year so I'd say that every indication points towards Barrie being among the upper echelon of point producing d-men in the NHL and there's very little reason to think he can't keep it up. E. Johnson is a 35-40 point guy, we have enough track record that there's no reason to expect more out of him so anything more should be considered a bonus. A 21st pick is marginal and doesnt' have a great likelyhood of landing a highly valuable asset. I'd think of it as a bit of a lottery ticket.

You're sending Trouba, who I fully expect to be every bit the player EJ is with the potential for more (and potential has value). Trouba is still incredibly young and stats are entirely in line with what I'd expect from a potential 40+ point player. He's never going to be an elite point producer but I'd value him over EJ in most league formats and he's worth considerably more than EJ to a rebuilding team.

KK has lost the lottery ticket of landing on a line with Sid but I don't see it the same way Emu does. Contending teams like the Pens are usually much more reluctant to give a kid a shot in those prime lineup slots so the chances were that he wasn't going to make it onto Sids wing any time soon (if ever) anway. Sure, the mere thought of it increased his value because people are willing to pay for that lottery ticket but you could look at Toronto as a blessing in disguise. He now has a relatively easy path to a top 6 position on a team that can grow with him and not heap expectations of immediate dividends upon him. I'd say his likelyhood of NHL production just went up considerably with the move to Toronto but his lottery ticket position of playing with Sid or Geno just went out the window. There are pros and cons to both sides but I do suspect that his value has taken a knock.

So I'm giving and edge to Trouba over EJ and Barie is considerably more valueable than KK but the difference between 7th pick and 21st pick is IMENSE in this years draft (or any draft for that matter). I could easily see how a GM would see Zacha, Meier, Barzal, Provorov Rantaanen, etc as being enough to make up the difference in the value spread between KK and Barrie.

If I was a rebuilding GM I'd strongly consider your offer.

I don't hate this - you get a couple very solid pieces.

But like others have mentioned - Kapanen went from an intriguing prospect to nothing special pretty damned quickly with the Kessel trade.

Really, I feel like your're giving up just Trouba and 7th - and I like that deal for you.
