Veteran and proven playoff preformer. Exactly what the caps need at this point. Nice move.

Logical player to replace what Joel Ward brought to the table.

Looks like a great signing for the Caps.
Might be a great fit for both if he is theur #1 RW and does what he does in the playoffs.

Good signing, good price, good term.

Perfect player for them. Bring some rings into the locker room -- winner to take them the next step.
If not lining with Ovy/Backstrom, he'll be a solid guy for second line.

Forwards: Kucherov, Barkov, Teravainen, Seguin, Hoffman, Lindholm, Gusev, Horvat, Meier, Perron, Schwartz, Johansen, Pavelski, Buchnevich, Hischier, Granlund, Bracco

Considering the cost and terms I am surprised he didn`t sign elsewhere. For all the talk about Caps upside they have not really done anything in the East other been an also ran. They have pretty much been an epic fail versus NY for example. It will be a nice fit for fantasy teams with Williams getting such a top job...

I think the Islanders for example would be a better fit considering they are a rising tide and could use some veteran leadership. Detroit would also have been an intriguing situation with the state of Franzen`s game going forward. The Habs could have used him too.

Just kind of a head scratcher in the same way as Hamilton signing for less than expected, especially when Boston essentially bailed on the threat of an offer sheet.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Do you think this could affect Brouwer's role in any way?

Washington fills the need of "veteran who has been there before" with this signing. And at a decent cap hit too. Good for both player and team.

Slightly off topic, but did anyone else notice the intelligence on behalf of the teams and their management that seemed to come with the signings so far this year. There wasn't really any outrageous deals made. Sign of smarter GMs or just a low end crop of FAs available?

I thought he would sign for longer and more money. Good deal for the Caps.

That wouldn't stop them from throwing insane money at the guys that excel in advanced stats. The cap isn't increasing at the same rate as it was in past years so the UFAs have less money available to them.
