First time using this tool, awesome tool it seems!

Am I correct in the following....I have Andersen & Mason in a start 1 daily start league. Does this tool show I get an extra 42 starts from Philly playing on Anaheim off nights?

Yup. Anaheim and Philly play on the same night 40 times throughout the season. So you'd get 42 starts from Mason and 82 from Andersen (obviously not true because they both won't play every game, but you get the idea).

That is correct Nucks. I just ran it for you. and that's what I came up with. Would be a nice combo for sure!

If you do grab Mason you can use the tool again, put in Anaheim and Philly and put starting positions 1 and rostered players too. There are some goalies that might be available that could get you an extra 20 or so starts outside of those two in a daily league start 1 goalie.

One thing that is good to note about Goalie-Conflicts... is that it will shake out a bit better than the numbers.

For example, perhaps PHI/ANA play on the same night 40 times (of 82gp).
IF (this is key...)... IF each of the ANA goalie and the PHI goalie play an EVERY 82 game... then,
    yes,
You'd get 82 from ANA goalie.
You'd get 42 from PHI goalie.

But what will happen is that:
    1) The ANA goalie may only play 65 games.
    2) That means that the 17 times he doesn't play... you have an open G slot. And about half (40/82) of those nights, you could then start the PHI goalie... if he gets the PHI start (80% of the time, if he's a 65 in 82gp starter).

    So...
What you'd actually get from a 65gp ANA goalie and 65gp PHI goalie Combo is:
65gp from ANA goalie (all his starts)
38gp from PHI goalie (his 35/42 off-night starts for his team when ANA is not playing + 6/8 same-night starts when i) both teams play but ii) ANA goalie you own does not (20%x40 conflicts), and iii) The main PHI goalie you own gets the PHI start (80%)

In other words... even with 50% conflict... you'll still get closer to 60% of a 2nd #1 goalie's starts.

This theory is important for my (famous?) back-up goalie plan.
In leagues where there are lots of bench slots, I've been known to roster 5-6 back-up goalies on good teams.
I look for 27 starts from each of 6 goalies (162 total starts), knowing that there will be almost NO nights where I'd be so lucky (or "unlucky"???) as to have 3 back-ups getting same-night-start.

Amazing tool. Thank you so much.

Quick question though: can I create another tab to separate LW and RW? I tried copying and pasting the W tab but it looks like it doesn't work.

Not to take anything away from this site and the info available here - this is a deep, deep pool of information - but there are some other very useful sites out there with unique features that are quite helpful. Competition is good, right?

One of these sites is Left Wing Lock, with the tools entitled:Weekly schedule, and another called Roster Maximizer. The weekly schedule shows the games, Back-to-backs, and ranks the competition. You can scroll ahead weeks at a time. Similar, it seems, to the Same Night tool, but broken down weekly.

I particularly like Roster Max (RM).
Let's say you have a player due back in 30 days and you want to fill the spot. With RM, you set the time period, by date, for the expected period. You set the number of roster spots you have. You set the teams of the players you already have, and the tool calculates a table for all the teams: their games, the conflicts with your existing roster, etc.
Another use could be that you have a marginal player and you're thinking of replacing him with one of two or three possibles. RM will show you which of these replacement players will give you the most games.

There are other tools, and they have accurate goalie start information, too. It's all about quality of information, and there is some quality info at LWL.

I have no connection to LWL; I just think it's also a good site with some helpful tools.
