My league gives a bonus for goals, PP goals/PP assist and a bonus for pts for Defenseman.

Only one guy left to pick before me, if he doesn't take Werenski should I?

Who else would you have given my goal-heavy format. I really really like Barzal but he might not be the best fit in my league structure.

Pick #7 was Rantanen. I'm on the clock. Torn between Barzal,Werenski and Zacha. Zacha is closest to fantasy relevance..

Yeah for upside I still prefer Barzal - but in your format, I can see you questioning things. Also, there is a LOT of talent currently manning the Isles F lines. They may take their time with Barzal.

Zacha is indeed closest both in terms of physical maturity and situationally - so I think I would go with him. He's a bit of a risk but has the goods to be right there in the Barzal realm if he fully develops. Werenski would be a solid choice too - although I would think the wait might be a little longer.

If you are on the clock and these are your options, Rantanen would be my choice.

Even though he slipped a bit, I prefer Barzal in NY over Zacha in NJ. Zacha is solid but there isn't much there for him to work with and the Devils have a lot of work to do to find offense.

OK, so I am at pick 8 as well, and thoroughly confused as to what to do. There's a bunch of interest in the pick, and the names still around are the usual: Barzal, Provorov, Werenski, Gurianov, Meier, Crouse etc. I pick again at 11 and had hoped to get one of the high-skilled forwards and also one of the "big 3" d men with these two picks. I had figured I'd just go Barzal here and grab Werenski at 11, assuming he drops.

I've been getting some trade offers on the pick, which I am considering. One in particular would move me back to 10, and get me another pick in the mid 20s. If I did the deal I can probably get Werenski and one of the other forwards, and then grab one of the high upside guys in the 20s. Essentially I'd downgrade from Barzal to a Russian forward, still get Werenski and add another good prospect later in the 20s. Of course, the possibility exists that Barzal survives another two picks anyway.

Thoughts?

So what happened? I kind of liked Meier but realized I was far too late to offer you any pertinent advice unless the clock was 24 hours long. If so, I like Meier, Barzal, Rantanen in that order.

I went with Werenski in the end. I tried everything to get the next two picks in order to draft Werenski,Barzal and Zacha but was never able to conclude anything. I took Werenski because this league gives a bonus to goals, and also bonus for points by defenseman. He's got the upside to be the best D of the 2015 crop in my league format.

I'm really showboating here, but boy I'm happy I picked Werenski at #8

Zacha is producing and Barzal has been solid too.
And there have been a few D-men in the past several seasons that start out with a bang and then fizzle.
Werenski does look outstanding though.
