He’s pushing to come back for training camp. He’ll start slowly I think, but will eventually get up to his normal pace.

I had Backstrom after he missed a large portion of a season with a concussion. Did not miss a beat when he returned.

When playing it didn’t hurt him, it was just stiff/sore the next day. He said that in an interview, which is linked somewhere in this thread.

Any new info on this? I don't know if this helps Oshie or hurts him as he may not practice with him and Ovie from the get-go...

much can change over the rest of the summer but i'd be cautious and hope for 70gp 65pts, that's how i'm valuing him

A lot depends on the severity of the injury and the nature of the surgery.

Remember that Jamie Benn took home a scoring championship, then his hip went under the knife TWICE. He is hoping to be ready for training camp himself.

Rehab will have Backstrom in top shape

I tend to avoid NB because he is assist heavy and there are other players with similar upside who should slide lower giving my team a shot at a legit top goal scorer.

I think Hemsky had hip surgery this Summer as well
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Rehab targets the injury itself, not overall conditioning. If he went under the knife in June, he prolly won’t be rehabbing till more than likely very recently. And rehab as I said, is solely focused on his hip. So he’ll lose 2-3 months of conditioning because he spent it recovering and rehabbing. And without much leg training, he’ll have lost muscle and more behind than he’s used to in previous offseasons.

Depending on the surgery, core and upper body workouts can be done, but running and conditioning training will be 2months at the least behind schedule. Plus make up time for losing his ‘touch’ so to speak. If he’s back come season opener, that’s great, but he won’t be himself right away.

I’d also assume he’d have very limited pre-season action or practice with any sort of intensity.

According to GM MacLellan, NB has started skating and is expected to be in training camp.

Ahh I sure hope so, this is getting me nervous to say the least.

Someone earlier mentioend they avoid Backstrom because he is assist heavy? Personally, I prefer a player who si either assist or goal heavy (Strong in one category), as it bulks up that particular stat. NB had, what was it, 61 assists last year? That can put that one category over the edge in H2H match-ups. Joe Thornton is also like that, especially a few years ago - his assists would be practically triple his goal count.

+1 for this comment. You changed my view/opened my mind a little on this. When I read it, we were nearing the end of our inaugural 35 round, 16 team dynasty league draft and I ended up choosing Leo Komarov in round 32 specifically because of your comment. Komarov is a hits machine and I can plug and play him to gain a bunch of hits with a little side of offense to boot.
