With such a big mess in BOS - the upper management is seen arguing among themselves on the draft floor, no one realizes they are on the clock, clock gets down to 30 seconds - Brian Burke has had enough. He sees an opening, scuffles his hair, loosens his tie and B-lines it to the podium. He picks up the mic: "Boston selects Kyle Connor"

*drops mic , reaches into his suit pocket, pulls out a piece of paper and glasses, tells Bettman to hold the mic up for him and proceeds to read from the piece of paper "With the 14th overall pick the CGY Flames are proud to select...."

..... from Cape Breton, Evgeny Svechnikov....

    Wait... Burke took a Russian??

The Flames are sorely wishing that Lawson Crouse would have fallen into their laps, but when looking at their roster and the success of the rebuild so far, the Flames are looking more towards an NHL ready player with enough size and speed to play a Western Conference style. Hudler is gone to free agency next year, so they need someone with offensive skill to fill in a top-6 RW role. The Flames have three second-round picks and hope to solidify their defensive gaps with at least two of those picks, allowing them to reach for a homerun pick now.

In truth I doubt the Oilers retain this pick because I am quite certain they are entertaining offers to deal the pick for immediate help. That said, if the pick is kept the Oilers will happily step up to the mic and announce the selection of defenseman Jakub Zboril from the Saint John Sea Dogs. Maybe I'm biased because I am both an Oiler and Sea Dog fan, but I think Zboril is exactly the type of player the Oilers need.

After watching Duncan Keith lead the Hawks to yet another Stanley Cup, the Oilers hope that Zboril can be the next relatively undersized, smooth skating, positionally sound, offensively minded, minute munching, Norris caliber blueliner to lead his team to glory.

Chevy: "The Winnipeg Jets are thrilled to select, from the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL, Nick Merkley."

Blessed with tremendous hockey IQ and playmaking abilities, Nick Merkley is a welcome addition to the Jets franchise. His size isn't ideal, but with a strong base and top tier compete level, Chevy isn't concerned. Doesn't hurt that he's a western Canadian boy. This kid could one day find himself playing the right side on an elite offensive line with Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers, where Merkley's vision would be most effective.

The Ottawa Senators are proud to select winger Brock Boeser from the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL.

We love Brock's power forward game and goal scoring prowess. A great skater with an NHL frame who was rated as having one of the best shot's in the draft and definitely one of the best physical games. Brock is going to North Dakota next year, so he will have plenty of time to develop into the power forward Ottawa is hoping to get down the road.

Kenny Holland knows the importance of this pick. He just lost his coach and he'll be damned if he'll loose his consecutive playoff streak which is at 24 years and running. This is afterall, his team, not Babcock's, and this pick will once again remind everyone that he's the man in the Detroit responsible for it's illustrious legacy.

He know's his team's strenghts and weaknessess. He is loaded at wing with some excellent up and coming talent. Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, Pulkinnen...no he will look elsewhere. Perhaps down the middle.....Dats and Z aren't getting any younger or healthier. No, they are still the heart and soul of this team and Kenny knows that he needs to provide them with help while he still can, not look to find their replacements...not now atleast, not yet. He doesn't even bother to think about goaltending this early, or even consider it a need - with the emerging Petr Mrazek in the fold and looking every bit of a franchise goaltender that can solidify the position for the next decade.

No, with this pick Kenny chooses to to address the one weakness on his team-defence. He looks back and remembers the great Redwings that have gone through his roster. Perhaps the greatest of all might be Nick Lidstrom. A silky smooth swedish defenseman with a left handed shot who's biggest asset was his cerebreal play even when he possessed world class skating. Kenny know's what his team needs, he also knows that while it's a longshot to be given another Nick Lidstrom, this player still gives him a shot at something great.

He walks up to the podium with a feeling in his gut that he is about to add to the line of franchise defining players to wear the red and white. He's had this feeling before walking up to the podium, and the outcome's been the same every time.

"19th pick of the 2015 NHL Entry, the Detroit Red Wings are proud to select from Stockholm Sweden, Oliver Kylington."

Minnesota Wild GM Chuck Fletcher walks onto the stage. He is joined by assistant GM Brent Flahr, Hockey Hall of Fame member and chief amateur scout Guy Lapointe, former Princeton University Hockey Team captain and amateur scout Darren Yopyk, and 2014 first round pick Alex Tuch.

"With the 20th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry draft, the Minnesota Wild are proud to select, from Hanover, Mass and the US National Development Team, center Colin White".

White is a smart two way hockey player in the Patrice Bergeron mold. He will be heading to Boston College for next season to join last year's first round pick Alex Tuch. Hopefully the two of them can develop chemistry before becoming integral parts of the Wild Franchise.

Tim Murray and the rest of his crew marches on towards the podium, holding in their hand an urn with McDavid's name on it. Bob McKenzie is saying on air that he believes it's the reminder of the McDavid jersey that Murray burned after he announced his first pick. Murray puts delicately the urn on the floor when he reaches to microphone. He says with a stoic voice: The Sabres are proud to select from the Sherbrooke Phénix, Jérémy Roy .

Washington picked Bittner in the other thread

Canucks would take local boy Jansen Harkins in this situation, hoping he blossoms into their next Kesler.

After selecting Marner, the Leafs showed they are moving past the phase of selecting big body, truculent and belligerent players over skill.

With the 24th overall pick, the Leafs are looking to do the same, selecting a player oozing offensive talent, despite the lack of size.

We are proud to select: Jeremy Bracco

Chevy looks self-assured and somewhat smug as he walks up to the stage. With their first pick they had managed to snag a dynamic forward in Merkley, who they were very surprised was available at 17. Now they are picking 25th and have the opportunity to draft a player that was very much in their wheelhouse for the 17th pick, as they felt Merkley would probably be off the board.

"With the 25th pick the Winnipeg Jets are proud to select... from the Saint John Sea Dogs, Thomas Chabot."

Once again the Jets stay within the confines of North America with their first round choices. While there are some European kids available that appear to have tantalizing skill, the Jets are very comfortable in Chabot being the best player available at this stage and strengthens an already impressive back-end in Winnipeg.

Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins walk up to the stage with a big smile on their faces, knowing they have the makings of a future star with their selection. Bergevin points to the mic and lets Timmins announce their pick.

TT: ''We would like to thank the Florida Panthers organisation as well as the fans in Sunrise for their hospitality and class act during this past week (roars of Quebecers in the back can be clearly heard chanting Olé, Olé, Olé Olé... Oléééé... Oléé).''
*Bigger smiles on both Bergevin and Timmins' faces*
TT: ''Thank you... Thank you (cheers and applause from the numerous Montreal fans in attendance)''
*Waits untils the croud settles down*
TT: ''With the 26th selection, the Montreal Canadiens are proud to select, from Karlstad, Sweden... Joel Eriksson Ek!! (applause and cheers resume)''

As per Timmins' scouting team at Hockey's Future: ''Joel Eriksson Ek is a center that plays with both a good compete level and hockey IQ and boasts several tools that should serve him well going forward. While being capable of skill plays and possessing good vision, he is particularly adept around the net and in tight, quickly tracking the puck and possessing good hand-eye coordination in those situations. Has a good shot that allows him to be a scoring option in those situations. He is more than willing to play in traffic, will sacrifice his body to make plays but again is really impressive in-tight around the net both in his willingness to play in scoring areas as well as having the ability to produce from there. His stride might not be the most impressive and he does appear like he could use more leg power, but he still gets around to the places he needs to. For being 6'2 his frame is still rather lanky at this moment, but once he fills out you really start getting outlines of what could be an NHL player and one that possesses a skillset that should really make him valuable if he progresses to that point.''

The Tampa Bay Lightning are proud to select, from Ladia Togliatti of the MHL, RW Denis Guryanov.

While the Lightning could use some more skill on defense, and size down the middle, these are immediate needs that should be addressed through trades or free agency given that the ‘win’ window is already upon this potential dynasty.
I feel that Guryanov is the BPA that fits Tampa’s needs. The left-shooting Guryanov fits the profile of a prototypical Tampa Bay forward and will add much-needed size and grit.

According to Corey Pronman, Guryanov is an explosive skater and gets the highest of grades in terms of pure skating ability for a player his size. He pushes the pace very well and can be a lot to handle for defenders on the rush. He combines that with a pretty impressive skill level, as he creates a lot of chances with his hands and vision.
