Tim Murray and his entourage come on the stage with two jerseys.

He takes the mic : " The Buffalo Sabres are proud not to select Connor McDavid". Murray then shows a Sabres Jersey with the #97 and the name McDavid on the back with a big red X on the back of it. He then proceeds "The Buffalo Sabres are glad to select the player who they feel will be the best player in this draft, from Boston University, Jack Eichel".

Before leaving the stage, Tim Murray shouts "Dracarys" and procedes to throw some fire on the McDavid jersey. Turning it into ashes in seconds.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm ok.. I was going to draft D.Stome anyway, but this seems really awkward..

D.Strome says: "I don't like that Connor is in my picture as I am my own player, I took the OHL by storm while he was out nursing his weak little wrist. I carried this Otters team on my back while CM97 was on the shelf. I am excited to join the Coyotes because I know we will all be playing in a new city soon enough!"

The Toronto Maple Leafs walk up to the podium, smiling as they are able to select the guy they wanted all along. For months they leaked false information to the media that they were very high on Strome, even that they may trade #4 if Arizona selected him.

We are pleased to select, from the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League: Mitch Marner

General Manager Ron Hextall approaches the podium.
"We'd like to thank the city of Sunrise and the Florida Panthers for hosting this draft... with the 7th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft... the Philadelphia Flyers are proud to select... from TPS Turku of SM-liiga... Mikko Rantanen"

    In interview with Craig Button:
RH: "We are thrilled to get the big winger. We think he'll be a strong player in the NHL... he's got both good speed & quickness for a bigger player, a little edge, and protects the puck quite well. We've been looking for his size since the past GM traded away JVR for that joke on the blue line... (what? - oh, we still have him... oh... ok...)... anyways, we considered Provorov here but we are very happy with our upcoming D prospects, especially the LH Morin. We also knew that that damn Finn about to draft after me had his googly Finnish eyes all over Rantanen - so HA HA Columbus - draft somebody else."

"With the 8th overall draft pick, Columbus Blue Jackets select, from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, Ivan Provorov."

After making their selection, the General Manager of the Blue Jackets provides some comments about the newest Blue Jacket.

"We were very pleased that Ivan was still available for us. We had him ranked higher than this, so we were obviously very happy to take him. We believe Ivan can develop into a true number one defenceman and play his effective two-way game for over 25 minutes per game at the NHL level. His all-around game is very strong, he doesn't have many weaknesses. Our scouts believe Ivan is close to being ready for the NHL but we don't want to rush him if he isn't ready, so we'll see how he handles himself in training camp. We're very happy that we have Ivan in our system now."

The San Jose Sharks are proud to select with the 9th overall selection in the 2015 NHL entry draft a Michigan product, defenceman Zach Werenski.

"We have been eyeing this young man for a long time as our potential powerplay QB of the future. Not only that but we are convinced this man has such a complete 200 foot game that we believe he could be a top pairing defenseman in the NHL someday. He will be given a legitimate shot to win a job out of camp with us, it's up to him if he sticks. However we don't expect him to make the team, we are prepared to take our time with him. "

    -Wilson

"Werenski is a smooth-skating, puck-moving defenceman that has a strong understanding of the game. He excels in key situations and is able to execute under pressure. Also possesses good vision and awareness on the ice, just plays a complete game and brings it every night."

With the 10th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry draft, the Colorado Avalanche are proud to select, from the Sarnia Sting, Pavel Zacha.

Reasoning: Honestly, I just think he's the BPA. The Av's are rich with young offensive talent, but I wouldn't be surprised if O'Reilly was on the move for D help.

Dale Tallon steps up to the podium...

The Florida Panthers are proud to select, from the Halifax Mooseheads...
    Timo Meier

As Tallon and Meier go over to the TSN desk for their interview, James Duthie says we're a third the way through the first round, and it's time for one of the interns to bring him a drink. Panthers goalie Roberto Loungo brings him a bottle of water and tell James to say hi to Jamie McLellan for him.

Tallon: Timo was the guy we were hoping for all along. It's no secret that last year we considered trading down from first overall to get a winger. Well, glad we didn't do that! But this year, we had the opportunity to acquire a high level winger to go along with our core group of high level centers and defenceman, and we feel that Timo will fit in great with that group.

Bob McKenzie: The Panthers were praying that the Avalanche didn't take Meier. Besides for his high skill level, size, two way play, and huge offensive upside, Meier has shown that perhaps his greatest quality is his ability to make great players greater. He's played with both Jonathan Drouin and Nic Ehlers, and has only made them better. The Panthers expect him to do the same to Barkov, Huberdeau and Bjugstad.

Jim Nill and his mustache mosey up to the podium with a jersey in hand. Upon seeing the previous picks, he has known who this pick would be for quite some time now.

With the 12th overall pick, the Dallas Stars are proud to select Travis Konecny, RW from the Ottawa 67's.

The Stars have become the western version of the Pittsburgh Penguins. They have more defensive NHL-ready prospects than they know what to do with. What they truly lack is scoring wingers who can slide into the top 6 and make an impact. Travis Konecny will do just that with his quick shot and playmaking abilities.

Sorry guys, in Germany this summer, was asleep.

With the 13th overall pick, the LA Kings will select, from the Kingston Frontenacs, Lawson Crouse.

To me, although I don't watch the Kings as much these days (I'm out east), the Kings needed a LW. While they could use more D and goal as well, that will have to come later, because there isn't a D I wanted this high, and goalies in this draft will have to wait for the later rounds. Crouse, who I won't likely go near in a fantasy draft, is a good fit for the Kings here, as his size and drive will help them keep up with their down-the-road rivals in Anaheim. Their LW prospect pool is very shallow, with Mistele, Joel Lowry and 2010 draftee Maxim Kitsyn promising very little. They aren't exactly loaded on center, either, so the odds of them converting a top-6 center to the wing are iffy. The Kings do have Gaborik and Pearson on LW, but with Gaborik's injury history and the inconsistency Pearson showed last season after a hot start, it seems a good idea to add another piece to the system. Not to mention that while Trevor Lewis and Dwight King are useful players, neither of them seems like a fit on the top line. Plus, King is a UFA next year, and Lewis the year after.

Looking at the last few Kings drafts, it seems a bit of a deviation, but they also haven't drafted inside the top half of the first round since Schenn in 2009. They have clearly attempted to address their LW shortage in recent years, selecting three in 2011 (Mersch, Lowry, Schumacher), two in 2012 (Pearson & Prokhorkin), Zykov and Kubalik in 2013. But the highest pick they have had to spare for a LW in recent years was Pearson at 30th overall. Other than Pearson, you have to go all the way back to Frolov at 20th in 2000 to find the Kings drafting a projectable top-6 LW. So, while they may seem to shy away from LWs at this stage in the draft, I think this year they recognize the need and pull the trigger. The 2 inches and 30 pounds Crouse has over the next best LW candidate, plus the rounded, two-way Kings game, is why they take him here over the other LW/C on their list.
